This role focuses on developing cutting-edge conversational AI and agentic solutions, leveraging Generative AI and cloud technologies. You will be instrumental in designing, building, and deploying sophisticated AI systems that enhance user experiences and drive business value.

As a Senior AI/ML Engineer, you will lead technical initiatives, mentor team members, and contribute hands-on to the development and deployment of advanced AI capabilities. Your work will directly contribute to Optum's mission of enabling healthier lives for millions globally.

Design, develop, test, and deploy enterprise-grade chatbots, voice bots, and virtual assistants. Build multi-turn conversational experiences, incorporating intent recognition, entity extraction, and dialogue management. Develop agentic AI solutions capable of reasoning, planning, function calling, and tool usage using frameworks like Google ADK or LangChain. Integrate bots and agents with enterprise APIs, knowledge repositories, and backend applications. Apply conversation design principles to create natural and effective user experiences. Implement robust fallback and escalation mechanisms for agentic AI systems. Build and optimize conversational experiences using Google GECX and orchestrate AI agents using Google ADK. Troubleshoot issues across conversation flows, agent orchestration, and fulfillment services. Contribute to bot configuration, software development, prompt engineering, and integration efforts. Build secure, scalable, cloud-native AI solutions, preferably on Google Cloud. Develop CI/CD pipelines for bot configurations, prompts, agent definitions, and fulfillment services. Establish logging, monitoring, and alerting for AI solutions. Lead and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on in development and support.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, ML, Data Science, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is accepted. Minimum 8 years of experience in software engineering, conversational AI, AI/ML engineering, or distributed systems. Proven hands-on experience building AI agents with reasoning, planning, and function calling capabilities. Demonstrated experience developing production-grade chatbots, voice bots, or conversational AI applications. Experience with at least one agent framework such as Google ADK, LangGraph, LangChain, or Semantic Kernel. Experience integrating bots/agents with enterprise APIs, backend applications, databases, and authentication services. Proficiency in Python and solid knowledge of APIs, microservices, and asynchronous processing. Experience with cloud-native development on Google Cloud or Azure. Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, logging, and monitoring. Solid understanding of prompt engineering, agent instructions, and Responsible AI controls. Ability to optimize AI solutions for task completion, conversation quality, and scalability. Willingness to remain hands-on in development, coding, integration, testing, and production support.
