Join Microsoft as a Security Research Intern and contribute to designing and executing vital security research initiatives. This role involves in-depth analysis of malware, threats, and vulnerabilities, alongside adversary tracking and the development of threat intelligence and mitigation strategies. You will also explore various technology applications to better understand the threat landscape, aiming to disrupt adversarial activities and enhance our defensive products and services.
Our team is dedicated to building a state-of-the-art cloud solution that empowers customers with visibility and control, ensuring agility while staying ahead of evolving cyber threats. You will be part of a group focused on advanced threat detection capabilities, utilizing machine learning and behavioral profiling to identify emerging threats and sophisticated attacks through the engineering of a hyper-scale service designed to protect millions of hosts.
As an intern, you will begin by analyzing threat trends and anomalies to assess their operational impact and determine potential mitigation strategies. You will learn to identify systemic security issues and their resolutions. Responsibilities include processing threat reports from various sources and providing discrete threat data based on intelligence requirements.
Key tasks involve identifying security defects, vulnerabilities, and deficiencies in security guidance. You will contribute code for technical implementations and automate solutions for security challenges, including signature detection, malware analysis, threat analysis, and reverse engineering. Research findings will be used to inform architecture and product direction.
Furthermore, you will identify dependencies and overlaps with other teams, providing constructive input for integrated and timely work. Communicating deliverable status and dependencies is crucial for meeting schedules. You will also engage in protecting security tools, techniques, information, and results, responding to system or product incidents as needed, and using pen testing outcomes to enhance products and services.
This internship opportunity is for individuals currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field. Candidates must have at least one additional quarter or semester remaining in their academic program after the completion of the internship.
