Microsoft Research India (MSR India) is a premier research lab dedicated to advancing innovation in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Theory, Technology & Empowerment, and Systems. We are actively seeking exceptional research engineers with a proven history in AI/ML. The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing novel models, scalable ML architectures, robust systems for ML workloads, and implementing innovative, large-scale ML applications. Projects here are interdisciplinary, covering artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, systems, and theory.

This role demands strong coding and engineering prowess. You should be comfortable tackling open-ended problems, embracing new technologies, and adapting to evolving requirements. As a research engineer, you'll play diverse roles within projects as needed. You will collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, and internal/external partners, taking ownership to deliver quality solutions and achieve project objectives.

We require candidates with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a related field. Essential qualifications include strong programming and communication skills, with the ability to drive end-to-end research and development from initial concept to deployment. A minimum of 5 years of industry work experience, demonstrating a track record of innovation and delivering impactful solutions, is necessary.

Preferred qualifications include a solid understanding of deep learning, LLMs, and large-scale ML systems. Proficiency in Python and PyTorch, along with familiarity with CUDA and cutting-edge agentic frameworks, is highly advantageous. Experience in data preparation, pre-training, post-training, and evaluation for ML models is also desired.
