Join Microsoft Research India as a Research Infrastructure Engineer, playing a pivotal role in constructing, securing, and automating the advanced technical environment essential for world-class research. This opportunity allows you to lead and drive critical computing infrastructure projects that empower cutting-edge research at Microsoft Research India. You'll collaborate with global MSR labs, sharing expertise and best practices. Beyond traditional support, you'll actively contribute to innovative research and engineering efforts, acting as an automation expert and force multiplier to streamline processes and elevate productivity.

Take ownership of and support research infrastructure, including cloud services, GPUs, workstations, servers, and development tools like GitHub. Provide technical support for both internal and external events. Design and implement automation solutions to boost reliability, security, and research output. Develop tools and scripts utilizing Python, PowerShell, Azure, and other DevOps technologies. Serve as a key advisor on deployment architectures, hosting strategies, access control, security protocols, and operational best practices. Collaborate closely with researchers and engineers to pinpoint bottlenecks and engineer scalable solutions. Manage technical contract staff responsible for physical infrastructure such as networks, telephones, and printers. Contribute to shared tooling, infrastructure, and, where applicable, research projects and prototypes. Coordinate efforts across engineering, procurement, security, compliance, and IT teams to deliver complex technical solutions.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, technical operations, DevOps, systems engineering, or software development is required. Demonstrate strong hands-on experience with Linux and/or Windows administration. Possess experience with Azure or other major cloud platforms. Show proficiency in communication and content management platforms like Teams/SharePoint. Be proficient in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell. Exhibit a solid understanding of security fundamentals, access control, identity management, and enterprise security practices. Possess excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
