Job description

Join AWS Infrastructure Services as a hands-on Rack Lifecycle Team Manager, overseeing the critical day-to-day operations of rack lifecycle management within our data centers. This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless execution of all rack operations, from initial demand intake and landing to final decommissioning.

As a leader within our Infrastructure Operations team, you will guide data center technicians to translate organizational capacity goals into tangible floor-level deliverables. You are the central point of accountability, guaranteeing that every rack is installed on time, meets all standards, and is decommissioned safely and compliantly, directly supporting AWS's mission of delivering infrastructure capacity reliably and cost-effectively while upholding the highest safety and security standards.

Responsibilities

Lead the planning and execution of network deployments, including rack installations, structured cabling, and MMR/CFA builds, to meet customer capacity timelines. Coordinate site readiness, ensuring racks are prepared for installation according to standards. Proactively resolve blockers across various domains such as permits, facilities, power, and vendor dependencies.

Manage the entire cabling infrastructure scope, including fiber/copper cabling, patching schedules, and labeling. Validate testing results and ensure adherence to quality standards. Track and manage the supply chain for racks, cables, optics, and network components, monitoring lead times and inventory levels. Flag supply chain risks and collaborate on mitigation plans with procurement and vendor partners.

Serve as the primary contact for internal customers and cross-functional teams regarding site-level rack lifecycle activities. Conduct daily stand-ups and provide timely status updates, escalating blockers as necessary. Lead the site-level decommission pipeline, coordinating graceful shutdowns with zero service impact. Oversee physical decommission activities, ensuring MOP and EHS compliance, and track the recovery of reusable assets.

Track and report on key site-level KPIs related to rack delivery, cabling completion, and decommissioning progress. Define and enforce site-level policies and SOPs, aligned with AWS standards. Champion the adoption of operational tooling to enhance efficiency and data accuracy. Ensure clean, documented handoffs to Data Center Operations teams with updated records and zero blockers. Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and safety-first team culture through effective leadership, coaching, and development of data center technicians.

Qualifications

Possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience with a minimum of 4 years in a related field. Requires 3+ years of direct people management experience, including leading managers or senior individual contributors. Additionally, 2+ years of relevant discipline work or 5+ years of data center engineering or operations experience is essential.

Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of experience in data center operations, critical environments, infrastructure cabling, or network deployment. Experience with network cabling, fiber optics, and testing equipment such as VFL, power meters, and OTDR is beneficial. Familiarity with measuring key operational metrics like order cycle time and inventory record defect rate is a plus.

Industry certifications such as CompTIA, CCENT, or Network+ are advantageous, as is experience working in a colocation data center facility. Experience managing and negotiating contracts and vendor relationships will be highly valued. We encourage individuals with diverse experiences, non-traditional career paths, or those new to the field to apply.
