Job description

Seeking a seasoned Technical Account Manager to join our Oracle Database team. This role blends deep Oracle Database expertise with exceptional customer relationship management, strategic account planning, and service delivery leadership. You will act as a trusted technical advisor, empowering enterprise clients to enhance their database availability, performance, security, and operational efficiency across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures.

Your mission will involve translating customer business objectives into concrete technical strategies, orchestrating Oracle's internal teams, and ensuring the fulfillment of service commitments. Success in this position hinges on strong technical judgment, clear communication, and a proactive approach to customer success, from managing risks and driving technology adoption to coordinating critical incidents and championing continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include cultivating robust relationships with database administrators, architects, IT leaders, and executives, understanding their core business goals and technical landscapes. You will craft and maintain detailed technical account plans, service roadmaps, and customer success strategies with defined milestones and measurable outcomes. This role demands effective coordination of contracted service deliverables, meticulous tracking of service levels, and conducting regular operational and executive business reviews.

You will lead customer communications during critical incidents, orchestrating support and engineering teams for swift resolution and follow-through on root cause analysis. Proactively manage database health through coordinated checks, performance evaluations, and availability assessments to identify and mitigate risks. Guide customers through complex database lifecycle processes, including upgrades, migrations, patching, modernization, and cloud adoption, ensuring readiness and minimizing risk.

Furthermore, you'll review high availability architectures, backup strategies, and disaster recovery readiness against customer objectives. Advise on database security best practices, access controls, encryption, and vulnerability remediation in collaboration with client security teams. Drive technology adoption by helping clients evaluate relevant Oracle Database, OCI, automation, and AI capabilities based on business value. Act as a customer advocate within Oracle, coordinating cross-functional resources and communicating product feedback. Maintain comprehensive account documentation and service dashboards to demonstrate ongoing progress and value.

Demonstrate strong database performance analysis and SQL tuning skills, including a deep understanding of execution plans, indexing, optimizer statistics, wait events, AWR, ASH, and ADDM. Proficiency in RMAN backup and recovery, restore validation, disaster recovery planning, and understanding recovery objectives is required. Knowledge of Oracle Exadata architecture, workload optimization, and operational considerations is expected.

Experience planning database migrations, upgrades, and patching using tools like Data Pump, AutoUpgrade, GoldenGate, and Zero Downtime Migration is necessary. Familiarity with OCI database services, Oracle Autonomous AI Database, Exadata Database Service, and Exadata Cloud@Customer is important. An understanding of database security capabilities, including TDE, privilege management, auditing, Oracle Data Safe, and Database Vault, is also required. Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL, Linux/Unix fundamentals, and scripting/automation with Python, shell scripts, Ansible, or Terraform is mandatory.

Preferred qualifications include familiarity with modern database capabilities such as Oracle AI Vector Search, vector embeddings, similarity search, RAG use cases, Select AI, and JSON Relational Duality. Awareness of cloud database observability, infrastructure automation, and performance/cost optimization is beneficial. The ability to assess operational, security, and governance requirements for AI-enabled database solutions is a plus.

In terms of technical account management skills, strong stakeholder management, executive communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities are vital. You should be adept at explaining complex technical issues in terms of business impact and recommended actions, managing escalations, setting expectations, resolving conflicts, and maintaining customer confidence. Excellent planning, prioritization, and coordination skills are needed, along with an understanding of incident, problem, and change management practices (preferably ITIL-aligned). The ability to define and track service measures and demonstrate ownership, analytical thinking, and effective cross-team collaboration is expected.
