Join Mastercard's Real Time Payments (RTP) Platform, Tooling & Engineering Enablement team as a senior technical leader. You will be instrumental in elevating engineering practices across RTP, serving as a force multiplier for the program. This role involves aligning RTP with Mastercard's high standards and pushing beyond them in areas like platform development, CI/CD, and governance, all while enhancing developer experience and AI enablement.

Success in this position will be measured by improvements in Developer Experience (DX), driving innovation and architecture, fostering widespread AI adoption, and ensuring adherence to robust Standards & Governance frameworks. You'll leverage your deep expertise to tackle complex, open-ended challenges within the RTP program, collaborating effectively with numerous engineering teams.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will significantly enhance how RTP builds, tests, and deploys software by bringing your Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge. You will architect secure, resilient, and scalable solutions, documenting designs clearly. You will proactively address ambiguous problems, analyze data to identify inefficiencies, and translate findings into actionable recommendations. A key part of your role will be to explore emerging engineering practices and integrate approved technologies to optimize RTP's operations.

You will also drive practical AI adoption across RTP Engineering teams using approved tools, and embed critical standards and governance by monitoring adherence and identifying areas for improvement. Supporting program-wide teams, customers, and initiatives is essential, as is making complex technical topics accessible to leadership through clear communication. You will also actively coach and mentor engineers across various cross-functional teams.

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is required. Candidates should possess strong experience in software engineering and architecture, with Java being a significant advantage. Extensive experience in platform engineering, cloud technologies, and CI/CD pipelines is essential.

Proven technical leadership capabilities, demonstrated through setting direction on complex technical challenges, are crucial. Experience utilizing AI in daily engineering tasks, such as AI coding assistants, and driving its team-wide adoption is highly valued. You should also have experience embedding engineering standards, including secure coding and testing practices. The ability to prepare and deliver executive-level presentations, mentor engineers in a high-performance environment, and influence teams without direct authority is expected.
