Join Mastercard's Real Time Payments (RTP) Platform, Tooling & Engineering Enablement team as a Principal Software Engineer. This role is crucial for enhancing engineering capabilities across RTP, aligning with and exceeding Mastercard's standards in platform development, CI/CD, and governance. You will be instrumental in driving developer experience and AI enablement initiatives.

This senior technical individual contributor position offers the opportunity to apply deep subject matter expertise to complex, open-ended challenges within the RTP program. You'll collaborate extensively with various RTP Engineering teams, managing your own time and deliverables effectively.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will leverage your extensive expertise to significantly improve how RTP develops, tests, and deploys software. You'll architect secure, resilient, and scalable solutions, backing them with clear, well-documented designs.

You will tackle ambiguous problems, analyzing data to identify inefficiencies or areas for improvement, and transforming these findings into actionable recommendations. Proactively identify opportunities to enhance RTP's operations through approved technologies. Drive the practical adoption of AI across RTP Engineering teams using designated tools and help embed robust standards and governance by promoting adherence, conducting audits, and integrating identified gaps into the program's technical roadmap.

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is required. Candidates should possess strong experience in software engineering and architecture, with a preference for Java. Significant experience in platform engineering, cloud technologies, and CI/CD pipelines is essential.

Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, guiding complex technical challenges, and applying AI in daily engineering tasks (e.g., AI coding assistants) is necessary. Experience in embedding engineering standards, including secure coding and testing, alongside preparing and delivering executive-level technical presentations is also a key requirement. The role demands experience in mentoring engineers, influencing teams without direct authority, and ideally, knowledge of the payments industry or working within a regulated environment.
