Join Oracle's Exadata team as a Principal Data Systems Software Engineer, focusing on building a new cloud-native, autonomous database service. This role offers a unique opportunity to solve complex problems in highly available distributed systems and virtualised infrastructure. You'll own feature areas, design scalable architectures, and contribute to a service that powers Oracle Cloud offerings. This position blends production ownership with development, providing continuous challenges and the chance to implement innovative recommendations.
We are seeking passionate and skilled engineers to develop a multi-tenant, high-performance storage cloud service engineered for the Exadata platform. This cost-effective solution is designed for maximum performance and availability, supporting a wide range of workloads. As part of this exciting team, you will play a crucial role in building the foundation for Oracle's autonomous database offerings.
Own and design feature areas, encompassing data models for OLTP, OLAP, JSON, spatial, and graph databases. Define and enforce performance budgets, ensuring query patterns meet stringent latency targets at scale. Collaborate with product management to design and analyze experiments that drive user adoption, conversion, and retention. Architect complex new services and enhance existing ones.
Design, develop, and deploy software to improve the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Oracle products. Lead code reviews, debug complex issues, and develop robust fixes. Implement comprehensive software testing, quality assurance, error logging, and monitoring. Conduct performance profiling and optimization for scalable solutions, anticipating and resolving potential issues. Troubleshoot and resolve complex API functionality and integration challenges, implementing advanced API versioning and lifecycle strategies.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience, is required. Candidates must possess 10+ years of hands-on software development experience, with a strong focus on designing, implementing, debugging, and supporting distributed, scalable system software and/or cloud services.
Proficiency in Java and Python, along with scripting languages like Shell and Perl, is essential. A deep understanding of distributed systems, web services, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design is crucial for solving complex challenges. Experience with microservices architecture, container runtimes (Docker, LXC/LXD), and tools like Nomad/Kubernetes is expected. Familiarity with professional software engineering practices across the full development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations, is vital. The role demands a strong desire to build, a sense of ownership, urgency, and drive, coupled with a systematic problem-solving approach.
