Join a dynamic engineering team to build the next generation of Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA) software. This role focuses on protecting and recovering critical Oracle databases for Fortune 500 enterprises, directly impacting their core operations. You'll work on software where data integrity, cyber resilience, and performance at scale are paramount.
This is an opportunity to contribute to shared product priorities, deliver new features, and evolve an enterprise data protection platform. You will help shape a new team while gaining deep product expertise within a globally recognized engineering organization.
The work involves Oracle database kernel development and systems programming, primarily using C and PL/SQL on Linux. You will solve complex engineering challenges related to buffers, caches, memory management, storage, file systems, I/O, networking, concurrency, and distributed systems. A strong foundation in algorithms, thoughtful design, and understanding component interactions are key to creating correct, efficient, and maintainable software.
Develop and maintain ZDLRA features and enhancements in C and PL/SQL on Linux, contributing to Oracle database kernel and systems software. Translate technical requirements into clear designs and actionable tasks, evaluating trade-offs for correctness, performance, and scalability.
Apply advanced algorithms and data structures to build robust software, focusing on memory usage, concurrency, and behavior under heavy loads. Enhance components involving storage, file systems, I/O, networking, and distributed processing, ensuring data integrity and recovery.
Investigate and resolve complex defects, including those from customer environments, by reproducing failures, identifying root causes, and implementing durable fixes. Utilize debugging tools like GDB, core dumps, logs, and profiling tools to diagnose issues and understand system behavior.
Design and implement comprehensive tests covering functional behavior, edge cases, regressions, concurrency, and failure scenarios. Adopt secure coding practices and adhere to engineering standards, considering error handling and backward compatibility.
We seek experienced developers with robust C, Linux, and system programming skills, along with practical knowledge of database internals, storage, distributed systems, or other demanding enterprise software.
Prior experience with Oracle Database, RMAN, PL/SQL, or backup and recovery products is advantageous. Essential qualities include strong systems fundamentals, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to transform complex requirements into reliable production software.
This role requires taking assigned work through the entire software development lifecycle, from analysis and design to implementation, review, testing, integration, and maintenance. Effective planning, communication of progress, design decisions, risks, and blockers are crucial for coordinating with the engineering team and delivering project milestones.
Collaboration with ZDLRA engineers in India and the US, as well as relevant database engineering teams, is expected for resolving cross-component issues and achieving shared product objectives. Participation in design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback, and writing clear documentation are also key aspects of this position.
