We are seeking a highly skilled Senior MongoDB Atlas Platform Support Engineer to deliver enterprise-grade operational and technical support for MongoDB Atlas within cloud-native environments. This role encompasses end-to-end L1-L3 production support, ensuring day-to-day operational excellence, optimizing performance and availability, and collaborating closely with application teams, platform engineering, and cloud service providers. The ideal candidate will be a MongoDB Atlas subject matter expert with strong cloud, automation, and database fundamentals, ready to support mission-critical systems in a 24×7 enterprise production setting.
Key responsibilities include providing L1/L2/L3 production support for MongoDB Atlas clusters, managing incident response, and conducting root cause analysis. You will own day-to-day operations, including cluster health monitoring, capacity planning, scaling, backups, restores, upgrades, and maintenance coordination.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance, stability, and availability issues. Configure, manage, and support Atlas networking and security, including Private Endpoints, IP access controls, encryption, IAM, and compliance. Partner with application teams for onboarding, migrations, and production readiness.
Collaborate with MongoDB vendor support and internal engineering teams for escalations and defect resolution. Design, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and supporting automation scripts. Support multi-cloud MongoDB Atlas environments across Azure, AWS, and GCP. Participate in on-call rotations for 24×7 production support coverage.
The role requires a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, along with 8+ years of hands-on experience supporting MongoDB Atlas in production. You should also have 4+ years of experience supporting relational databases (SQL Server preferred) and extensive experience provisioning and managing MongoDB Atlas resources via APIs.
Proven experience supporting enterprise-scale, multi-cloud MongoDB deployments and cloud-hosted databases on Azure, AWS, and GCP is essential. You'll need expertise in building automation for operational workflows, monitoring, and diagnostics, as well as demonstrated success using Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and automation.
Solid expertise in MongoDB Atlas operations, administration, and troubleshooting, coupled with a deep understanding of MongoDB architecture, replica sets, sharding, indexing, and performance tuning, is crucial. A strong grasp of security, encryption, backups, disaster recovery, and compliance in cloud environments is also required. Familiarity with GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Kubernetes-based application platforms is beneficial. Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, Golang, Java, Shell, or PowerShell is necessary. You must possess proven debugging, troubleshooting, communication, and presentation skills, along with a self-motivated, ownership mindset and a positive attitude.
