This hands-on role involves leading the design and development of critical components within the OCI Block Storage Service. You will architect scalable distributed systems, enhance code and data paths, and build resilient, performant, and durable hyperscale services.

Lead the design and implementation of scalable distributed systems for Block Storage, ensuring horizontal/vertical scaling, elasticity, and robust state management. Optimize software, data paths, and system interactions for hyperscale workloads, defining and testing scalability requirements. Engineer highly reliable and durable services with fault-tolerant designs, in-service upgrades, and minimal customer disruption. Anticipate distributed-system failure modes by designing predictable behavior during network issues or traffic spikes. Ensure system correctness, availability, and observability through defined KPIs, telemetry, and validation strategies. Take ownership of operational excellence, proactively resolving complex production issues and conducting root-cause investigations. Implement robust security controls for multi-tenant cloud environments and ensure compliance with relevant requirements. Advance automation through Infrastructure as Code and tooling, while mentoring team members on best engineering practices.

A minimum of 10 years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record in designing and delivering large-scale, highly available distributed systems or backend services. Proficiency in production-level software development using Java, C++, or similar systems/backend programming languages. Experience with scripting and automation using languages like Python. Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, multithreading, and distributed systems fundamentals. Demonstrated ability to design systems for scalability, high availability, fault tolerance, durability, and performance. Working knowledge of networking fundamentals and protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP). Strong capabilities in production troubleshooting, debugging, performance analysis, and tuning. Ability to independently manage complex technical components while fostering effective collaboration within an agile environment.
