Our Compute organization is fundamental to OCI's existence, providing essential compute power through VMs, BMs, and GPUs. We develop and manage a suite of services critical for cloud operations, including provisioning, monitoring, repair, control plane, data plane, and re-imaging, all working seamlessly behind the scenes.

We are seeking experienced, hands-on engineers with a passion for tackling complex challenges in large-scale distributed systems, virtualised infrastructure, and highly available services. Expertise in Java, Linux, Python, Terraform, CI/CD tools, networking, microservices architecture, and system engineering is essential. We value simplicity and scale, thrive in collaborative, agile environments, and encourage continuous learning.

As a senior software developer, you will own and develop key services and technology areas. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of end-to-end architecture, call flows, configurations, technical dependencies, and the operational behavior of production services.

Your role involves the design, development, and maintenance of mission-critical systems, with a strong emphasis on security, resilience, scalability, and performance. You will be accountable for the overall performance and operability of these services, driving improvements in service architecture and articulating technical characteristics.

This position requires engineering advanced capabilities for Oracle Cloud's service portfolio. You will communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes, and requirements of services and technology stacks. A clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles is expected. You will serve as the ultimate escalation point for complex issues and leverage your deep knowledge of services and their dependencies to troubleshoot and define mitigations.

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science and Engineering or a related engineering field is required.

We are looking for 10+ years of experience in developing and operating large-scale, highly available distributed systems. Extensive experience in mission-critical Java backend microservices design and development is also necessary.

Key qualifications include the ability to lead teams, own deliverables, break down work, estimate effort, and manage multiple parallel work streams. You should be adept at assessing and mitigating technical risks.

Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools like Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, and Terraform, along with Python, is essential. We require excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. Experience in DevOps, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes is crucial.

A deep understanding of Cloud Computing, observability, and NoSQL databases is expected. The ability to thrive in a very fast-paced environment and ensure carefully planned and executed changes, upgrades, and enhancements is also vital.
