Join our team as a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer and provide technical leadership for a critical set of services within OCI’s network monitoring and observability platform. This role is pivotal in ensuring visibility into the health, performance, and behavior of our vast network infrastructure.
You will design and evolve highly scalable, reliable, and efficient distributed services essential for collecting, processing, storing, and analyzing network telemetry. Your ownership will extend across service architecture and key technical decisions for telemetry ingestion, stream processing, metrics, alerting, and network health monitoring.
We expect you to ensure owned services operate reliably at cloud scale, meeting stringent requirements for availability, data integrity, latency, scalability, and operational efficiency. A key part of this role involves identifying performance and reliability bottlenecks, driving architectural and engineering improvements, and serving as a technical expert.
As a technical expert for your services, you will lead the resolution of complex production issues and collaborate closely with network engineering, infrastructure, and dependent service teams. You will also mentor other engineers and contribute to shaping architecture and engineering standards across the broader Network Monitoring organization.
Lead the architecture and technical evolution of critical services within OCI’s network observability platform. Design and implement scalable distributed services for collecting, processing, and exposing network telemetry at cloud scale, focusing on high-volume and high-cardinality data. Develop robust capabilities for monitoring network health, topology, state, performance, and device behavior to enable timely detection and diagnosis of network failures.
Ensure the scalability, reliability, and operational excellence of services by designing horizontally scalable and elastic systems, identifying and resolving bottlenecks, and implementing resilient state management and failure handling mechanisms. Define and achieve service level objectives (SLOs) for availability, durability, latency, and data freshness, and lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex production issues.
Build advanced capabilities for monitoring large-scale L2/L3 network infrastructure, correlating telemetry to improve fault detection and localization. Develop mechanisms to identify abnormal network behavior and infrastructure failures, collaborating with network engineering teams to translate requirements into effective monitoring solutions. Drive high-quality software engineering practices, including testing, automation, and secure design, to optimize service efficiency and ensure security compliance.
We are seeking a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer with strong expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and microservices, including Kubernetes and distributed state management. Proficiency in observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana, and experience with time-series data and large-scale monitoring systems are essential.
Candidates should have hands-on experience with streaming and data processing technologies such as Kafka or Flink, and a solid understanding of L2/L3 networking concepts, including routing, switching, BGP, and SNMP. Strong software engineering skills in languages like Java or Go, with experience in building concurrent and performance-sensitive production systems, are required.
Demonstrated experience in reliability engineering, including defining and meeting SLOs, incident response, and root cause analysis, is crucial. Familiarity with automation tools and practices like Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD is also important. Experience building and operating large-scale cloud infrastructure, network monitoring, telemetry, or observability services is strongly preferred. Prior experience in a similar role is expected, with a career level typically aligning with IC4.
