Join AWS Infrastructure Services to keep the cloud running! We are seeking a Network Development Engineer to join our Capacity Restoration Team (CRT). This role is for builders who create novel solutions beyond traditional industry approaches. You'll work on critical components of CRT's automation and tooling stack, accelerating capacity restoration and solving complex technical challenges.
This position bridges operations and engineering, where you'll operate the network and develop code to enhance operational efficiency. You will not rely on vendors for design or support, fostering an environment of innovation and self-sufficiency within the team.
We foster an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to see them through to completion. Diverse experiences are valued, and we encourage candidates to apply even if they don't meet every qualification. If your career path is unique or includes alternative experiences, don't hesitate to reach out.
As a Network Development Engineer on the CRT, you will:
- Design and enhance automation components to rapidly restore links and devices across various network fabrics. - Diagnose network failures at a component level using advanced tools like workflow orchestration engines and deployment automation platforms. - Develop comprehensive link test plans and structured diagnostic outputs to facilitate system-guided troubleshooting. - Integrate with existing tooling to bolster monitoring and alerting for out-of-service capacity. - Establish and maintain team-level operational metrics, monitors, and processes aligned with CRT KPIs, focusing on MTTR, restoration success rate, and backlog depth. - Produce clean, testable, and well-documented code, preferably in Python, to ensure future maintainability. - Contribute actively to design reviews and discussions aimed at improving operational processes. - Participate in on-call rotations to support follow-the-sun coverage between Seattle and Bangalore. - Create and maintain clear documentation for systems, tools, and runbooks, ensuring it remains current with evolving systems. - Continuously learn the team's product architecture and apply this knowledge to deliver effective solutions.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in computer networking, or hands-on experience with network equipment installation and configuration. - Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Python, Ruby, or Perl. - A strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals and practical application of IP protocols. - Experience with major internet routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF. - Familiarity with operating in a Linux or Unix environment. - The ability to read and comprehend complex code. - A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred qualifications include experience with automation tools, version control, networking administration and troubleshooting, Linux, and advanced networking protocols. Exposure to Amazon internal tooling, configuration management, workflow orchestration tools, and optical networking concepts is also beneficial. Relevant certifications like CCNA or JNCIA are a plus.
