As a Manager, Software Engineering, your typical day will involve working at the forefront of developing critical Services/APIs that power our business, specifically focusing on near real-time data access solutions to enhance customer experiences. You will conduct thorough code reviews, manage retrospectives, and oversee the acceptance of Pull Requests using Git. A key part of your role will be coaching your team in adopting engineering best practices, including adherence to 12-factor app design principles.

You will be responsible for recruiting and hiring top talent, consistently aiming to bring individuals who surpass existing team capabilities. Collaboration with business leaders across the organization is essential to ensure our software products align with strategic business objectives and meet current industry API standards. You will lead our engineering teams within an agile structure, advancing high-level strategies such as cloud enablement and streaming analytics.

Embody and drive the Mastercard Way behaviors through your actions, recognition, coaching, and employee engagement initiatives. Provide strategic thought leadership for a broad spectrum of applications, systems, and software development methodologies. Work with Senior Leadership to advance our Big Data strategy for both cloud and on-premises environments. Furthermore, you will benchmark and drive engineering productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance within your areas of ownership, demonstrating an ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced work environment. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are vital for interacting effectively with all levels of management.

This role requires 9-12+ years of experience in Java development, with 2-3 years specifically dedicated to designing platform solutions. Proven experience in people management, overseeing teams end-to-end, is a mandatory requirement. A strong understanding of engineering practices and patterns across the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations, is essential.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in enterprise-level asynchronous/event-based communication and integration, as well as microservices topologies, including operational concerns like resiliency, observability, discovery, and routing, are crucial. You should possess hands-on experience designing complex, highly scalable, and performing microservices in a distributed environment, with deep technical skills in Java 11+, Spring framework, React-Spring, Spring Batch, OpenAPI (Swagger), SQL, CI/CD, Docker, and Serverless technologies.

A strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement of processes and software, coupled with proficiency in software engineering practices like Continuous Integration, Build/Deploy, Unit Testing, Regression Testing, and managing test/staging environments, is expected. You must be capable of independently developing various approaches and solutions, preparing high-level and low-level designs, and creating comprehensive documentation. Familiarity with architecture governance and practical approaches to high-volume data access and evolution is beneficial.

While knowledge of any cloud technology (Azure, AWS, PCF) is a plus, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and developing technical solutions and alternatives to meet business requirements in adherence with Mastercard standards, processes, and best practices. This includes accountability for the full systems development life cycle, creating design and technical artifacts such as detailed test strategies, performance benchmarks, release plans, and detailed estimates. Experience in communicating requirements, product features, technical designs, and product strategy with users, technical teams, and senior leadership is vital. You will also be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to enhance their skills and effectiveness.

A Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science is required.
