Offer strategic guidance for a broad spectrum of applications, systems, and software development methodologies. Benchmark and enhance engineering productivity, quality, and adherence to technology policies. Actively share knowledge within your Guild/Program to promote the reuse of patterns, libraries, and practices, thereby boosting productivity.
We seek an experienced IT professional with a proven track record in managing small-scale development organizations (2+ teams), demonstrating strong thought leadership, cross-functional influence, and collaborative partnership. Your career should reflect progressive growth with hands-on experience in design and development across multiple languages, adherence to secure coding standards (e.g., OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT), and robust vulnerability management skills.
Proficiency is required in building applications using open frameworks like Spring Boot, Steeltoe, Angular, or DXP to enhance reuse and accelerate development cycles. A deep understanding of operating system internals (Windows, Linux) is essential for delivering interoperable and high-performance code. You should be adept at debugging and troubleshooting, analyzing core dumps, heap dumps, and thread dumps to resolve coding errors. Experience in documenting and coaching teams on development practices and coding guidelines (e.g., branching, peer reviews, library usage, logging, scanning rules, TDD, error handling) is crucial.
Familiarity with advanced design patterns (e.g., service-to-worker, MVC, API gateway, intercepting filter, dependency injection, lazy loading) is necessary for implementing efficient code. The ability to conduct technical code reviews across applications and their dependencies to identify anti-patterns and promote continuous refactoring is expected. You should be able to articulate technical debt and operational issues to drive prioritization discussions with stakeholders for improved operational stability.
Understanding system architecture is key for capacity planning (database, compute, network, storage) and driving dependency prioritization to reduce lead times. Skills in understanding customer journeys and ensuring a positive Mastercard experience by minimizing Mean Time To Mitigate (MTTM) for incidents and maintaining high availability (99.95%) are vital. Experience in simplifying deployments, eliminating software and infrastructure snowflakes through standardized platforms, ephemeral instances, and automation is required. Proficiency in orchestrating release workflows and pipelines, applying standardized CI/CD pipelines via APIs using industry-standard tools (e.g., Jenkins, Bamboo, AWS/Azure pipelines, XL Release) is necessary.
Competency in configuring rules and building automation for code with vulnerability scanning and software composition analysis using standard tools (e.g., Sonar, Checkmarx, Nexus, JFrog XRay, Veracode) is essential. You should be skilled in defining, organizing, and reporting on test runs for various release types (unit, component, system, customer journeys, past issues, regulatory controls). The ability to conduct diverse performance tests (load, spike, breakpoint, endurance) to understand application/service limits and behaviors is also required.
