This role offers a unique opportunity to build and lead a new engineering team from the ground up in Hyderabad. You will be instrumental in defining the technical roadmap for critical workstreams and delivering software that enables Amazon to manage large commercial order volumes successfully. The scope includes architecting services for reactive procurement, full truckload delivery, last-mile driver intelligence, and real-time delivery risk assessment. Collaboration with product, science, operations, and existing delivery technology teams will be key to integrating with foundational systems while developing innovative capabilities. As a Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for building and nurturing a high-performing team of Software Development Engineers (SDEs), overseeing hiring, onboarding, and ensuring the team's readiness for delivery. You will establish the team's engineering culture, code review standards, and deployment practices from inception.

Furthermore, you will own the technical roadmap for bulk buying fulfillment and delivery quality for Amazon Business customers, translating a three-year product vision into a concrete, milestone-driven engineering plan. You will design and direct the architecture for services that integrate with established Amazon systems, including supply chain platforms, last-mile tools, geospatial services, and ML endpoints, making crucial build-vs-integrate decisions to ensure the delivery of operationally sound and maintainable solutions.

Collaborating closely with product management, data science, business intelligence, QA, and operations teams within AB Ops will be vital for aligning priorities and delivery timelines. You will also coordinate with partner operations teams on AB-specific customizations, ensuring clarity on code ownership, testing, and deployment responsibilities. Your role includes coaching and developing engineers at all levels by setting clear expectations, providing consistent feedback, and assigning challenging feature ownership, while also establishing operational excellence mechanisms such as CI/CD pipelines, on-call processes, SLA monitoring, and data quality validations for your team's services.

Candidates should possess a minimum of 7 years in engineering, with at least 3 years dedicated to engineering team management. A strong background of 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services is essential. A comprehensive understanding of engineering practices and patterns across the full software/hardware/networks development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations, is required. Proven experience in partnering effectively with product or program management teams is also a key requirement.

Preferred qualifications include demonstrated experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, articulate software product features, explain technical designs, and contribute to product strategy. Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to enhance their skills and effectiveness as product engineers is highly valued.
