Within our Business & Market Insights (B&MI) group, we are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Payment Reconciliation Intelligence Program. This role will focus on designing scalable architectures and leading the development of new features for a product used by global B2B customers, transforming complex data into actionable strategies.
We are committed to building a sustainable world and unlocking priceless possibilities for all. Our culture is driven by a strong decency quotient (DQ), guiding everything we do.
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and guiding the full-stack implementation of scalable Java applications, complemented by React or Angular frontends. You will serve as the senior technical authority, influencing design decisions and establishing technical standards, including platforms and coding practices. Your role involves creating software aligned with Mastercard’s Enterprise Architecture and service standards, ensuring code quality, maintainability, and adherence to project timelines.
Collaboration is key; you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product teams, to thoroughly understand requirements, define product roadmaps, identify optimal solutions, and contribute technical leadership. Providing detailed cost and time estimates, defining technical scope, and assisting project managers in scope management throughout the project lifecycle are critical functions. You will also ensure system designs support zero downtime in production and address operational and business concerns for consistent service delivery. A key aspect of this role is leading a focused team of engineers, with a strong emphasis on innovation and the adoption of AI technologies.
Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with approximately 9 years of experience in software engineering. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective collaboration across various organizational levels.
Technical expertise should include deep proficiency in Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and modern database technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch. Proven experience in designing and leading applications built on microservices architectures, along with hands-on experience with messaging platforms like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS, is required. Front-end development using React JS (16+) or Angular (14+) and experience designing APIs using OpenAPI specifications and RESTful best practices are also crucial.
Proficiency with build tools like Maven and Gradle, automation tools such as Chef and Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines through Jenkins and SonarQube within an Agile development environment is expected. A strong understanding of release management practices like Canary, Blue-Green, and Rolling deployments is necessary. Extensive experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native development, including containerization with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes or OpenShift, is vital. Familiarity with DevOps practices, infrastructure automation, and monitoring tools like Splunk or the ELK Stack is important.
Exposure to Generative AI and Large Language Model (LLM) based solutions, including API integration, AI-assisted development tools, RAG, and prompt engineering, is highly desirable. Additional valuable skills include experience with multiple programming languages, workflow orchestration platforms, distributed tracing, business rules engines, cryptographic concepts, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
