This Lead Software Engineer role is within Mastercard's Open Finance Europe division, focusing on creating and managing scalable API connectivity for financial institutions across Europe. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and developing cutting-edge technical solutions for a diverse global clientele. You will actively contribute to the continuous ideation, scoping, development, delivery, testing, and iteration of features for our ever-evolving API Platform.

Key responsibilities include contributing to Mastercard's Open Source projects, specifically those focused on API Client signing and encryption libraries. You will champion the adoption of automation across build, deploy, configure, validate, and monitor processes. Collaboration with other global technology, data, and operations teams will be essential for successful execution. Furthermore, you will serve as a subject matter expert for the API Platform and its services, occasionally supporting customer integrations.

We are seeking candidates with a strong command of Java or Kotlin, backed by extensive experience in building robust, scalable, and maintainable backend systems using SpringBoot. A proven track record in architecting and delivering complex web applications, with demonstrable experience as a lead engineer driving both architectural decisions and hands-on implementation, is essential.

You should possess a keen understanding of technical architecture and design, ensuring solutions are flexibly designed, perform efficiently, and are highly scalable. Active contribution to code, conducting design and code reviews, mentoring fellow engineers, and upholding engineering excellence within the team are highly valued.

Experience designing and implementing cloud-native applications, preferably on platforms like Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), is required. You should be comfortable working within an Agile environment with global teams that support frequent production releases. Demonstrable experience in designing and delivering high-standard APIs, including the implementation of API security models, is crucial. While frontend development experience is considered a bonus, it is not a primary requirement.
