Join Mastercard's Business Experimentation and Optimization (BE&O) team, a powerhouse of innovation in the Services organization. We craft industry-leading software that enables users worldwide to make informed, data-driven decisions through advanced analytics and experimentation. As we expand our offerings and modernize our technology stack, we are creating scalable, cloud-native solutions that redefine client engagement.
We are seeking a highly technical and hands-on Lead Software Engineer to spearhead the architecture, design, and development of our next-generation experimentation platform. This role is pivotal in defining and evolving system architecture, ensuring robust scalability, peak performance, stringent security, and unwavering reliability, all while upholding the highest engineering standards.
As a technical leader, you will guide cross-functional teams in building sophisticated services, APIs, and analytical capabilities. You'll leverage cutting-edge technologies like Databricks and cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure. Collaboration is key; you'll work closely with your immediate team and partner with other development teams to align on shared objectives, define critical cross-cutting initiatives, and deliver cohesive, enterprise-grade solutions. Mentoring engineers, navigating global time zones, and championing engineering excellence through best practices in software development, observability, and continuous delivery are integral to this position.
As a Senior Technical Leader and hands-on engineer for the BE&O next-generation experimentation and analytics platform, you will drive modernization and deliver scalable, secure, cloud-native capabilities for global business users.
Key responsibilities include: - Leading the technical design and delivery of complex, data-intensive software solutions for advanced analytics, experimentation, and data-driven decisioning. - Defining and executing the technical strategy for modernization initiatives, transitioning legacy systems to scalable, cloud-native, API-driven, and service-oriented architectures. - Overseeing system design at multiple levels, encompassing platform architecture, high-level and detailed technical design, integration patterns, non-functional requirements, and implementation strategies. - Contributing hands-on to design, coding, testing, debugging, and delivering production-quality software throughout the engineering lifecycle. - Developing and enhancing scalable services, APIs, data pipelines, and analytical capabilities using modern practices, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and data technologies (Databricks, Spark/PySpark). - Collaborating closely with product managers, engineering teams, architects, data scientists, QA, security, and operations to translate requirements into robust technical solutions. - Coordinating and leading technical execution across globally distributed engineering teams, ensuring alignment on dependencies, design decisions, and delivery milestones. - Driving architecture and design reviews, code reviews, technical decision-making, and tradeoff discussions to ensure solutions are secure, resilient, observable, performant, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise standards. - Identifying opportunities for platform improvement in scalability, reliability, developer productivity, operational readiness, and delivery speed through modernization, automation, reusable patterns, and best practices. - Providing technical mentorship to engineers through design guidance, code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing. - Navigating ambiguity by clarifying technical direction, decomposing complex problems, identifying risks, and driving stakeholder alignment. - Championing engineering excellence, continuous improvement, ownership, collaboration, and high-quality delivery across teams.
Ideal candidates will possess: - Over 8 years of software engineering experience focused on delivering scalable, high-performance, and reliable software within an agile framework. - Extensive hands-on experience designing and building distributed systems, microservices, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native applications. - Proven expertise with data-intensive applications and analytics platforms; experience with Databricks, Spark, or PySpark is highly valued. - Demonstrated leadership in system architecture, high-level design, detailed design, and end-to-end technical delivery of complex software solutions. - Experience leading technology modernization initiatives, including cloud adoption, platform transformation, and legacy application modernization. - Practical experience with AWS and/or Azure, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Kubernetes), observability tools, and modern software delivery practices. - Strong technical leadership skills as an individual contributor, influencing architectural decisions, driving technical strategy, and leading large, cross-team initiatives. - The ability to translate business and product requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions. - Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a proven ability to work effectively across engineering, product, architecture, data science, QA, and operations teams. - Experience leading and coordinating technical initiatives across globally distributed teams spanning multiple regions and time zones. - A passion for mentoring and developing engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and knowledge sharing. - Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the capacity to navigate ambiguity, make sound technical decisions, and drive results through hands-on execution. - A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; an advanced degree is considered a plus.
