Join our team at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Compute, where we spearhead the development of Virtual Machine Instance platforms. We engineer cutting-edge solutions for diverse computing needs across x86 and ARM architectures, encompassing general-purpose, confidential, and specialized workloads. Our commitment extends from launching innovative VM offerings to ensuring the continuous optimization and reliability of production systems. We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of virtualization to deliver highly performant, always-available, and elastic virtual machines to our enterprise and cloud-native clientele.
This Lead Principal Member of Technical Staff role offers a unique blend of deep technical expertise and leadership. You will spearhead the design, development, and operation of large-scale, highly available cloud services, driving key feature initiatives within Oracle Compute. Mentoring team members and shaping organizational engineering standards will be integral to your success.
As a key contributor, you will take ownership of the software design and development for critical components within OCI's Virtual Machine platform. This involves building novel solutions across the entire virtualization software stack.
You will champion operational excellence by establishing and enforcing best practices to enhance the quality, reliability, and performance of our hypervisor and VM platform. This includes conducting in-depth analyses across all system layers, from low-level Linux internals to complex distributed system interactions, to ensure system resilience and fault tolerance.
We are seeking seasoned professionals with a minimum of 10 years in system-level software development. A strong foundation of over 5 years in OS kernel internals, including areas like memory management and device drivers, is essential.
Candidates should possess over 5 years of experience with virtualization technologies such as QEMU/KVM, Hyper-V, or ESX. Proficiency in at least two core programming languages like C, C++, Rust, Java, or C# is required, alongside a robust understanding of data structures, algorithms, and operating systems. Excellent communication skills are also a must. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field is necessary. Experience with public cloud platforms, cloud infrastructure QA, GPU VMs, SmartNICs, confidential computing, and performance tuning are highly desirable, as is a Master’s degree.
