As a Lead Principal Member of Technical Staff, you will spearhead software development for critical features within Oracle Compute. This role demands a blend of deep engineering expertise and technical leadership, focusing on the design, development, and operation of large-scale, highly available cloud services. You will mentor team members, drive key initiatives, and contribute to establishing organization-wide engineering standards and best practices.

Key responsibilities include owning the software design and development for major components of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's Virtual Machine platform, building new solutions across the virtualization software stack. You will also drive operational excellence by defining and implementing best practices to enhance the quality, reliability, and performance of the hypervisor and virtual machine platform. Performing deep dives across the entire stack, from low-level Linux systems to high-level distributed system interactions, is crucial for identifying root causes and ensuring system resilience and fault tolerance.

This role requires a minimum of 10 years of software development experience in system-level engineering, with at least 5 years dedicated to OS kernel internals (memory management, device drivers, or kernel subsystems) and 5 years in virtualization technologies (e.g., QEMU/KVM, Hyper-V, ESX).

Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages is essential: C, C++, Rust, Java, or C#. A strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and operating systems is expected, alongside excellent verbal and written communication skills. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required. Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, OCI, GCP), Quality Assurance for cloud infrastructure, GPU VMs, SmartNICs, SR-IOV/VFIO, live migration, TPM, confidential computing, and system performance analysis/tuning are preferred. A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field is also desirable.
