Join Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's expanding Networking organization as a Lead Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer. This role is pivotal in building systems that manage internet traffic, optimize network performance, and ensure scalability for hyperscale workloads. You will architect highly available, scalable network control and automation systems, merging deep networking expertise with distributed systems knowledge.
This position involves defining technical direction, leading development efforts, and driving innovation in data plane platforms. You will focus on autonomous traffic management, policy-driven optimization, and software-based routing. The work ensures customer connectivity remains robust during growth, failures, and infrastructure changes.
This is a hands-on, individual contributor role with significant architectural influence. You will lead initiatives from design through production, contributing to critical implementations and setting standards for availability, security, and observability. Collaboration across engineering and operations teams, alongside mentoring senior engineers, will be key to fostering technical leadership.
- Define technical strategy and architecture for scalable routing, network control, and automation systems. - Design distributed services for route computation, congestion management, traffic steering, and fault recovery. - Correlate network signals for customer impact assessment and enable automated responses. - Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize capacity, resource utilization, and routing behavior. - Architect and build highly available, fault-tolerant systems with reliable state management and failover. - Define service-level objectives, telemetry, monitoring, and alerting for service health. - Establish practices for testing, phased migrations, and in-service upgrades. - Lead production troubleshooting, incident response, and root-cause analysis. - Integrate security controls, infrastructure as code, and automated deployment. - Contribute production code, review designs, and maintain documentation. - Partner with stakeholders to define technical strategy and deliver initiatives. - Mentor senior engineers and promote engineering excellence.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Over 10 years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems, network control planes, or network automation platforms. - Proficient in Linux systems and networking, including containers, memory behavior, network namespaces, and packet-level troubleshooting. - Experience designing highly available distributed services with reliable state management and observability. - Demonstrated ability to lead architecture across teams, resolve ambiguous requirements, and mentor senior engineers. - Deep knowledge of L2/L3 networking, routing, switching, SDN, traffic engineering, and WAN technologies. - Strong expertise in BGP, MP-BGP, IPv4/IPv6, route reflection, routing policy, and VPN address families. - Strong programming skills in Go, Python, Java, or C++, with experience in API design, concurrency, and production debugging.
