We are seeking a dynamic Lead Platform Engineer to join our Database & Platform Engineering team. This role is pivotal in building and operating secure, scalable, and highly available database platforms that are the backbone of Mastercard's mission-critical payment systems. You will be instrumental in driving engineering, automation, and reliability for Oracle and PostgreSQL platforms, both on-premises and within AWS cloud environments.

This position offers a unique blend of deep database expertise, cloud engineering acumen, and DevOps automation skills, all under technical leadership. You will contribute to delivering resilient platforms that power Mastercard's next generation of payment solutions.

As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will spearhead the design, construction, automation, and ongoing support of robust Oracle and PostgreSQL database platforms.

You will engineer highly available and resilient solutions utilizing technologies such as Oracle RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, PostgreSQL Replication, and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL. A key focus will be driving AWS cloud adoption and modernization efforts across our database and infrastructure landscape.

Key responsibilities include developing Infrastructure-as-Code and automation solutions to streamline provisioning, deployment, patching, monitoring, and recovery. You will also implement and enhance CI/CD pipelines to accelerate delivery while upholding stringent security and compliance standards. Collaboration with Software Engineering, SRE, Security, and Product teams is essential to deliver reliable and scalable services. Furthermore, you will lead initiatives in performance optimization, capacity planning, observability, disaster recovery, and operational excellence, alongside providing technical leadership during critical incidents and platform improvement activities. Mentoring fellow engineers and championing best practices in engineering, automation, and continuous improvement are also vital aspects of this role.

We are looking for a candidate with extensive hands-on experience in Oracle Database administration and engineering, including proficiency with RAC, ASM, RMAN, Data Guard, and GoldenGate.

Strong expertise in PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL is required, encompassing performance tuning, replication, backup, recovery, and high availability strategies. You should also possess proven experience designing and supporting large-scale production platforms in AWS, leveraging services like Aurora, RDS, EC2, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, and S3.

Demonstrated DevOps and automation experience using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or similar is crucial. Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Shell, Bash, or PowerShell is essential. Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions like OEM, Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, or CloudWatch is highly valued.

A strong understanding of database security, operational resilience, disaster recovery, and compliance requirements is necessary. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills are expected. The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical execution in a fast-paced environment is key.
