Lead Packaging Design Engineer
GE Healthcare
GE Healthcare
Join GE HealthCare, a leader in medical technology and digital solutions, and drive innovation in packaging engineering. This role offers the opportunity to lead end-to-end packaging projects supporting diverse product modalities and business segments. You will be instrumental in developing, testing, and implementing robust packaging solutions for a wide range of products and logistics needs.
Our purpose is to create a world where healthcare has no limits. This position is based at our GE BEL site in Bangalore, and as an individual contributor, you'll play a key part in new product introductions, cost productivity, safety, and sustainability initiatives. Collaborate with a global network of engineers, manufacturers, and suppliers to ensure our products are protected, transported efficiently, and meet all business requirements.
Lead comprehensive packaging engineering projects from initial concept through design, rigorous testing, validation, and final implementation.
Develop and design innovative packaging solutions for large and complex products, raw materials, inter-plant logistics, and direct customer shipments.
Provide essential packaging support for New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, product transfers, Variable Cost Productivity (VCP) initiatives, safety protocols, and sustainability efforts.
Create detailed packaging concepts, engineering drawings, precise specifications, and 3D models utilizing Creo and AutoCAD.
Select optimal packaging materials and systems, including corrugated, wood, foam, plastics, paper, and molded fiber.
Plan and execute thorough packaging testing and validation, adhering to ISTA and ASTM standards.
Evaluate packaging performance to identify improvements in product protection, safety, cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and supply chain efficiency.
Manage packaging design changes and support change management processes with proper technical documentation.
Collaborate with packaging suppliers and internal teams to assess technical solutions and facilitate qualification and implementation.
Effectively manage multiple concurrent packaging projects, providing clear communication on status, risks, and decisions to all stakeholders.
Work seamlessly with global and local teams across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Logistics, and Product Engineering functions.
A Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, or a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering coupled with substantial professional experience in packaging engineering and design, is required. A Master's degree in Packaging Management is also necessary for this role.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience is essential, with a strong emphasis on hands-on experience in packaging engineering, design, and development.
Proven track record of leading packaging projects through all phases: design, testing, validation, and implementation.
Significant hands-on packaging engineering experience with large or complex products is critical; experience solely with small cartons or parcel packaging will not meet the requirements.
Proficiency in using Creo for packaging engineering and 3D modeling is required.
Proficiency in using AutoCAD for engineering drawings and packaging-related design work is necessary.
Possess strong knowledge of various packaging materials and systems, including corrugated, wood, foam, plastics, paper, and molded fiber.
Experience with packaging testing and validation, including a working knowledge of ISTA and ASTM standards, is essential.
Demonstrate an understanding of sustainable packaging principles and the ability to integrate sustainability into design decisions.
