Join GE HealthCare's global packaging team as a Lead Packaging Design Engineer, driving end-to-end packaging projects for diverse product lines. This onsite role in Bangalore focuses on developing, testing, and implementing innovative packaging solutions for finished products, raw materials, logistics, and customer shipments.

Your expertise will support critical initiatives like New Product Introduction (NPI), cost optimization, safety enhancements, and sustainability efforts. You'll manage multiple projects, collaborating with worldwide engineering, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and logistics teams to ensure packaging effectively protects products, streamlines transportation, and meets business objectives.

GE HealthCare is at the forefront of medical technology and digital solutions, committed to creating a world with accessible healthcare. We invite you to bring your ambition and innovative ideas to an organization where every contribution fosters a healthier world.

Responsibilities

Lead comprehensive packaging engineering projects from initial concept through design, rigorous testing, validation, and final implementation. Develop and refine packaging designs for a range of items, including large and complex products, finished goods, raw materials, and internal/external logistical movements. Provide essential packaging support for New Product Introduction (NPI), product transfers, cost productivity (VCP), safety, and sustainability initiatives. Create detailed packaging concepts, engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models utilizing Creo and AutoCAD. Select and specify appropriate packaging materials and systems, including corrugated, wood, foam, plastics, paper, and molded fiber. Plan and execute thorough packaging testing and validation according to industry standards like ISTA and ASTM. Assess packaging performance to identify opportunities for enhancing product protection, safety, cost-effectiveness, and supply chain efficiency. Manage packaging design changes and ensure adherence to engineering change management processes and technical documentation standards. Collaborate with packaging suppliers and internal teams to evaluate and implement technical solutions. Effectively manage multiple packaging projects simultaneously, communicating project status, risks, decisions, and actions to stakeholders. Work closely with global and local teams across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Logistics, and Product Engineering.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with substantial packaging engineering experience is required, alongside a Master's in Packaging Management. Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, with a strong emphasis on hands-on packaging engineering, design, and development. Proven track record of leading packaging projects through the full lifecycle of design, testing, validation, and implementation. Demonstrated experience with packaging engineering for large or complex products is essential; experience limited to small cartons or parcel packaging is not sufficient. Proficiency with 3D modeling software like Creo for packaging design and AutoCAD for engineering drawings is mandatory. Solid understanding of various packaging materials and systems, including corrugated, wood, foam, plastics, paper, and molded fiber. Experience with packaging testing and validation, including familiarity with ISTA and ASTM standards. Knowledge of sustainable packaging principles and the ability to integrate sustainability into design decisions is crucial.
