Job description

Join GE HealthCare's global packaging team as a Lead Packaging Design Engineer. This role is pivotal in driving end-to-end packaging engineering projects for diverse product lines.

You will be instrumental in developing, testing, validating, and implementing innovative packaging solutions for finished products, raw materials, logistics, and customer shipments. Your contributions will support crucial initiatives like New Product Introduction (NPI), cost productivity, safety, and sustainability efforts.

Collaborate across global engineering, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and logistics teams to deliver packaging that ensures product protection, optimizes transportation, and meets business objectives. GE HealthCare is dedicated to a world where healthcare has no limits, and this position offers a unique opportunity to turn ambitious ideas into reality.

Responsibilities

Lead comprehensive packaging engineering projects from initial concept to final implementation.

Design and develop robust packaging for large, complex products, raw materials, and various shipment types.

Provide critical packaging support for NPI, product transfers, cost reduction, safety, and sustainability projects.

Create detailed packaging concepts, engineering drawings, and 3D models using advanced design software.

Select optimal packaging materials, including corrugated, wood, foam, plastics, and molded fiber.

Plan and execute rigorous packaging testing and validation according to industry standards like ISTA and ASTM.

Evaluate packaging performance to enhance product protection, safety, cost-efficiency, and supply chain sustainability.

Manage design changes and ensure accurate technical documentation.

Liaise with suppliers and internal teams for solution evaluation and implementation.

Effectively manage multiple projects, communicating status and technical insights to stakeholders.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with substantial packaging experience will be considered.

Possess a minimum of 7 years of hands-on professional experience in packaging engineering, design, and development.

Proven track record of leading packaging projects through all phases, from design to successful implementation.

Demonstrated expertise in packaging engineering for large or complex products is essential; experience limited to small cartons is insufficient.

Proficiency with 3D modeling and design software such as Creo is a must.

Strong command of AutoCAD for creating detailed engineering drawings is required.

In-depth knowledge of various packaging materials, including corrugated, wood, foam, plastics, paper, and molded fiber, is necessary.

Experience with packaging testing and validation, including familiarity with ISTA and ASTM standards, is crucial.

An understanding of sustainable packaging principles and their application in design is expected.
