Mastercard is seeking a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Architect/Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in designing, building, and operating the core cloud platforms that empower our product and service teams. You will focus on Azure-based infrastructure and cloud-native services, driving automation to support transaction processing, analytics, and enterprise-wide developer productivity.
As a senior individual contributor, you will wield significant technical ownership and influence, shaping the evolution of complex platform capabilities and setting technical direction. You will collaborate closely with engineering, security, and operations leaders to ensure our platforms are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business objectives. While hands-on, your impact will be amplified through the systems, standards, and teams you enable.
Provide technical leadership for intricate cloud infrastructure and platform initiatives across multiple teams and services. Own the architecture, design, and implementation of crucial Azure infrastructure components and platform capabilities. Establish and refine standards, patterns, and guardrails for secure, scalable, and operable cloud solutions. Lead technical discussions among cross-functional teams, fostering alignment on design decisions and trade-offs. Enhance self-service provisioning and developer platforms to streamline processes and boost team autonomy. Proactively identify and mitigate systemic risks related to reliability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency. Mentor and guide Senior and Software Engineer II team members through design reviews, feedback sessions, and technical coaching. Partner effectively with product, security, operations, and architecture stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust platform solutions.
We are looking for a seasoned professional with 8-12 years of experience in a similar domain.
You will need extensive hands-on expertise in designing, building, and operating large-scale Azure cloud infrastructure, covering compute, networking, storage, identity, and platform services.
Deep proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools such as ARM, Bicep, or Terraform is essential, with a focus on modularity, reusability, and policy enforcement.
A strong understanding of cloud security and networking concepts, including IAM, private networking, secure service boundaries, and defense-in-depth architectures, is required.
Demonstrated experience in designing resilient, highly available, and fault-tolerant platforms, coupled with a solid grasp of failure modes and disaster recovery strategies, is crucial.
Proven ability to lead complex initiatives from inception to completion, including technical design, work decomposition, delivery sequencing, and safe production rollouts.
Operability and cost efficiency should be core design principles, with observability, auditing, and financial transparency integrated into platform solutions.
Advanced troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving broad, cross-system production issues with minimal supervision are necessary.
Significant experience with enterprise CI/CD and SDLC practices, including quality gates, change management, and large-scale automation, is expected.
You must be a clear and influential communicator, capable of documenting architectures, defining technical direction, and building consensus across diverse teams.
A consistent track record of mentoring engineers and elevating technical quality and ownership within teams is highly valued.
We seek a pragmatic and collaborative leader who effectively balances technical excellence with delivery demands and organizational realities.
An active interest in evaluating and thoughtfully applying industry trends in cloud, DevOps, and platform engineering to Mastercard's ecosystem is essential.
