Job description

Join Optum, a global leader in health optimization powered by cutting-edge technology. As an AI/ML Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare by developing innovative AI-powered solutions. Your work will directly impact millions, connecting people with the care and resources they need. We foster an inclusive culture, provide opportunities for growth with talented peers, and offer comprehensive benefits. Advance health optimization on a global scale and make a real difference.

This role offers a unique opportunity to leverage advanced AI and machine learning techniques to create scalable, distributed enterprise applications. You'll be at the forefront of innovation, working with LLM ecosystems and GenAI patterns to build intelligent systems.

Be part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to improving health outcomes and creating a more equitable healthcare system. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life, and your contributions will be key to achieving this goal.

Responsibilities

As a Technical Leader, you will drive the end-to-end delivery of AI-powered solutions using LLM ecosystems and GenAI patterns, including RAG, embeddings, and NLP pipelines. You'll architect and implement microservices, event-driven architectures, and robust API-driven platforms, ensuring systems meet high standards for performance, reliability, and scalability.

Your role extends to developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and observability frameworks (logging, monitoring, tracing) to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting production issues and continuously improving operational excellence.

Collaboration is key; you will work closely with product and engineering teams, translating business requirements into technical solutions and influencing architectural decisions. Mentoring junior engineers, promoting best practices, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement are also integral parts of this position.

Qualifications

We are seeking a seasoned AI/ML Engineer with over 10 years of experience in designing and delivering enterprise applications. Essential technical skills include hands-on programming in Go or Python, and expertise in GenAI/LLM ecosystems (RAG, embeddings, NLP workflows).

Proficiency with databases like MongoDB and PostgreSQL, cloud platforms such as Azure or GCP, and container-based deployments (ACA preferred) is required. A strong understanding of scalability, performance, reliability principles, observability, and secure software engineering practices is fundamental.

Candidates must demonstrate expertise in system design, distributed systems, microservices, event-driven systems, and API design. Proven ability to build and deploy production-grade software systems is a must. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences are also critical.
