Job description

Rippling seeks an experienced India payroll specialist to join our Global Payroll Operations team, focusing on the Indian market. This role is key to expanding our India market expertise by managing core delivery workflows, including statutory filings, remittances, reconciliations, and customer-facing issue resolution. You'll handle agency and portal interactions, year-end activities, and post-payroll support.

Success hinges on deep local statutory knowledge, astute tax-treatment judgment, meticulous attention to detail, and effective communication with clients and internal teams under pressure. This is a highly collaborative position for a professional who excels in customer service, possesses operational discipline, and embraces a continuous improvement ethos.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include overseeing India's statutory cycles, such as monthly remittances, quarterly TDS filings, POI, Form 16, and reconciliation processes. You will accurately and promptly execute and reconcile payments for TDS, Professional Tax, EPF, ESIC, LWF, NPS, and Food Coupons.

Responsibilities extend to resolving complex payroll issues for customers and employees, including tax notices, filing discrepancies, and year-end queries. You will also advise stakeholders on India tax treatments, deductions, due dates, statutory filings, and compliance protocols. Furthermore, you'll collaborate with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Support teams to identify calculation gaps, file defects, and automation opportunities, transforming recurring issues into standardized operating procedures and actionable feedback.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate possesses at least 3 years of experience in India payroll compliance, covering TDS, PT, EPF, ESIC, LWF, NPS, POI, and Form 16. A minimum of 4 years in a client-facing payroll, payroll operations, or payroll tax role is required.

Proficiency in statutory filings, remittances, reconciliations, audits, tax notices, correction filings, and year-end processes is essential. Familiarity with TRACES, income tax portal workflows, quarterly TDS filings, and payroll compliance calendars is expected. Strong English communication, analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach are necessary. Comfort in managing case queues, escalations, and time-sensitive payroll tasks is vital, alongside experience with Google Sheets or Excel for data analysis and organization. The role requires an overlap with U.S. business hours, with a schedule of 1 PM–10 PM IST. A background in payroll providers, accounting firms, HRIS/payroll SaaS, or EOR/global payroll environments is preferred.
