Job description

Join the AWS Infrastructure Services team, the backbone of AWS global operations, ensuring the continuous availability of our cloud services. This is an opportunity to work on complex, large-scale infrastructure challenges. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of experts, from hardware engineers to logistics specialists, all dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and cost-efficiency.

Our inclusive culture encourages bold ideas and empowers individuals to drive projects from inception to completion. We are seeking a detail-oriented Rack Lifecycle Tech to physically install, cable, and decommission racks within our data centers, transforming capacity plans into operational reality.

Responsibilities

Execute precise rack installations, including physical placement, power connections, grounding, and cable management according to AWS standards and MOPs. Perform structured cabling, fiber/copper terminations, and ensure proper labeling and dressing. Conduct OTDR and power testing, validating results and escalating any failures.

Manage work orders and tasks accurately in workflow tools, performing quality checks on cabling and updating documentation. Identify and promptly escalate issues or deviations from SOPs. Support deployment wave readiness through site walks, material staging, and tool preparation.

Receive, verify, and stage incoming hardware, maintaining accurate site inventory records for deployed materials. Assist with cycle counts and identify inventory shortfalls impacting timelines. Complete all required as-built documentation, port maps, and test records before handoff. Update CMDB/DCIM and IPAM records post-installation or decommissioning.

Execute rack decommissioning per MOPs, including cable removal, power disconnects, and asset de-tagging. Perform secure device wipes and media destruction. Sort, label, and stage recovered assets for RMA, redeployment, or disposal according to AWS policies.

Adhere strictly to all site-level SOPs, quality standards, and governance frameworks. Complete all required safety training and certifications. Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring quality issues and suggesting process enhancements. Utilize Rack Lifecycle Team tooling for accurate work recording and asset tracking.

Qualifications

Requires at least one year of experience in computer networking and with Linux operating systems. A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is necessary.

Must possess the ability to lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds and have experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair. Experience working in cramped spaces or elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines is beneficial.

Preferred qualifications include experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system, a strong understanding of cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies, and direct experience working in a data center environment (racking/stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment).

Familiarity with rack decommissioning processes, including device wipe, media destruction, and asset recovery procedures, is also advantageous for this role. This position demands meticulous attention to detail and adherence to established procedures.
