Forward Deployed Engineer
NTT DATA
NTT DATA
NTT DATA is seeking a senior, customer-facing Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to bridge the gap between client needs, business outcomes, and technological solutions. This role involves deep engagement within customer environments to understand complex challenges, define opportunities, and establish a clear path from concept to value realization. The FDE combines specialized technical expertise with broad knowledge of NTT DATA and partner platforms to identify high-impact solutions.
This position requires a proactive approach to shaping validated opportunities into production-ready initiatives. The FDE acts as a crucial liaison between customer stakeholders and internal engineering, product, and operations teams. They ensure alignment throughout implementation and adoption, leveraging customer feedback to drive continuous improvement without taking over production delivery responsibilities.
Partner with clients to deeply understand their business objectives, workflow challenges, and desired outcomes, establishing clear success metrics. Lead discovery and assessment activities to translate ambiguous business needs into prioritized opportunities and develop outcome hypotheses with clearly defined assumptions and ownership.
Create rapid prototypes and experiments to test critical value and feasibility assumptions. Assess the feasibility of solutions across AI, data, integration, architecture, security, privacy, Responsible AI, and operational readiness. Shape validated opportunities into production-ready work, including target workflows, architectural direction, prioritized backlogs, and mobilization requirements.
Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, providing clear guidance and constructive challenge. Collaborate across various NTT DATA teams to orchestrate the necessary capabilities for successful outcomes. Analyze and resolve complex business and technical challenges using sound judgment and structured problem-solving techniques.
Identify high-value use cases by synthesizing domain context, stakeholder insights, and technological capabilities. Determine the most appropriate delivery route, which may include AI Studio, company products, or transformation services. Maintain engagement throughout the delivery lifecycle by validating key decisions and assumptions, ensuring continued alignment with intended value.
A strong foundation in enterprise solution architecture, engineering practices, data, integration, cloud platforms, and production technology delivery is essential. Demonstrated applied understanding of artificial intelligence, generative AI, agentic systems, RAG, automation, and model/tool integration is required. Familiarity with production AI considerations such as evaluation, security, privacy, Responsible AI, observability, and operational readiness is crucial.
Possess strong client emotional intelligence, consulting, stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills, enabling rapid trust-building in senior customer environments. Exhibit robust analytical, problem-solving, critical-thinking, experimentation, and evidence-based decision-making capabilities. Deep working expertise in at least one relevant specialist area (e.g., AI engineering, architecture, data, AI infrastructure) is expected.
Familiarity with relevant NTT DATA and partner platforms, products, accelerators, and implementation methods is beneficial. Ability to quickly learn and apply domain context, including processes, terminology, regulations, and business metrics, is important. Commercial awareness to link technical choices with business value, risk, and time-to-value is necessary.
Proven outcome leadership, including the ability to define measurable outcomes, surface assumptions, and drive critical decisions. A strong reuse and product-feedback mindset is valued. The capacity to communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders and the ability to work independently, manage ambiguity, and influence decisions are key.
