This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and guide a team of engineers within the Trust Platform Capabilities, Geo domain. You will leverage your technical and leadership expertise to drive major projects, contribute to product strategy, and foster team development. The work involves optimizing code, managing project goals, and ensuring engineers can optimize their own contributions.

Our Geo team is at the forefront of creating the world's most accurate and comprehensive maps through products like Maps, Earth, and Street View. We empower billions of users monthly and enable developers through Google Maps platforms. We tackle complex computer science challenges and design intuitive user experiences to deepen the understanding of our physical world.

The Trust Platform Capabilities team is pioneering an AI-first approach to transform user-generated content management. We are shifting trust from a backend filter to an intelligent, proactive platform that spans the entire user-generated content lifecycle, enhancing reliability and user experience.

Define and articulate team priorities, ensuring alignment with overarching organizational objectives. Standardize strategies, processes, and decision-making across multiple teams.

Establish clear performance expectations for individuals based on their roles and career levels, aligning with broader organizational goals. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to discuss performance, provide constructive feedback, and support professional development.

Develop and maintain the mid-term technical vision and roadmap, proactively adapting it to meet future requirements and infrastructure needs.

Guide and review system designs, and contribute to product or system development code to resolve complex, ambiguous problems. Understand and address User Generated Content (UGC) requirements within Geo, providing platform capabilities for internal and external stakeholders.

Review code developed by other engineers, offering feedback to uphold best practices in style, code integration, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.

A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience, is required.

Candidates should possess 8 years of experience in software development. A minimum of 3 years of experience is needed in developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, or in compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.

Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role for at least 3 years is essential. Additionally, 2 years of experience in people management or team leadership is required.

Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field. Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization for 3 years is beneficial. Prior experience leading software development teams focused on building scalable distributed infrastructure or middlewares is highly valued. Strong communication skills with senior stakeholders, coupled with strategic and product thinking capabilities, are also preferred.
