The Geo team is dedicated to building the most accurate and comprehensive maps, powering products like Maps, Earth, and Street View. As a manager, you will contribute to ambitious computer science challenges, elegant product experiences, and a deeper understanding of the real world.
Define and communicate team priorities, aligning them with organizational objectives and ensuring strategic coherence across multiple teams. Establish clear individual expectations, facilitate regular performance discussions, and provide constructive feedback and coaching to foster professional growth.
Shape the mid-term technical vision and roadmap, anticipating future requirements and infrastructure needs. Guide and validate system designs, and contribute to product or system development code to resolve complex, ambiguous problems. Address User Generated Content requirements for Geo and beyond, developing platform capabilities.
Conduct thorough code reviews for other engineers, ensuring adherence to best practices in style, code checking, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience is required. You should possess a minimum of 8 years in software development, including 3 years focused on large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks. Additionally, 3 years of experience in a technical leadership capacity and 2 years in people or team management are essential.
Preferred qualifications include a Master's or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, along with 3 years of experience in a complex, matrixed organizational structure. Experience leading software development teams on scalable distributed infrastructure/middlewares is highly valued, as are strong stakeholder communication skills, strategic and product thinking, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
