Our Payments Network Technology division is seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering. This pivotal role involves leading teams responsible for developing robust, scalable, and secure payment network capabilities. The position requires a blend of people management, strategic technology guidance, delivery oversight, and collaborative cross-functional engagement.

You will spearhead the growth and development of multiple engineering teams, including managers and senior technical leaders. A key responsibility is to define engineering direction that aligns with product priorities, architectural standards, resiliency goals, and security objectives.

This role demands ownership of delivery outcomes for a portfolio of services, expertly balancing customer commitments with technical investments, risks, and resource capacity. Building an inclusive and accountable engineering culture through strategic hiring, coaching, succession planning, and career development is paramount.

Collaboration with Product Management, Architecture, Operations, Security, and other dependent programs is essential for prioritizing efforts and mitigating delivery risks. You will also establish measurable standards for quality, automation, release readiness, reliability, and continuous improvement, communicating portfolio status, risks, and decisions to senior leadership.

Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in leading managers and multiple software engineering teams, coupled with experience in large-scale, highly available platforms and modern software engineering practices. A solid working knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, cloud-native delivery, CI/CD, and observability is required.

You should demonstrate the ability to translate business strategy into actionable engineering plans and organizational priorities. A Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is necessary.

Additional qualifications include experience in Agile delivery environments, strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to work effectively with globally distributed teams. Proven experience leading complex technology solutions from inception to production adoption, and building resilient, operable solutions with an emphasis on operational readiness from the outset, are also key. People-management experience, including performance management, conflict resolution, coaching, and career development, is vital. While not mandatory, knowledge of the payments or financial services domain is preferred.
