Lead the development of cutting-edge payment authentication and security solutions within a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This pivotal role offers technical leadership and expertise for our e-commerce payment authentication platform. As a Director of Software Engineering, you will guide diverse technology centers, supporting MasterCard Business Partners and both internal and external customer needs. The position encompasses significant financial, organizational, and policy responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and direction to multiple engineering teams and functional areas. Ensure staffing levels are met, and departmental and staff development needs, including training and cross-training, are addressed. Foster a high-performance culture by clearly communicating goals, objectives, and performance expectations, and implementing improvement plans as needed. Review, approve, and oversee the implementation of new or updated operational processes and procedures. Allocate appropriate resources and budgets to ensure timely, efficient, and predictable delivery of processing services, along with continuous performance enhancement. Address operational and business concerns related to future programs, projects, or enhancements to maintain consistent delivery of quality services.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant functional area or equivalent work experience is required, with an advanced degree being highly desirable. Candidates should possess extensive experience managing multiple functional areas, particularly within the EMVCO 3DS Payments domain. Proven experience in developing and managing departmental budgets across various disciplines is essential. Formal business or management training, including Project Management, Financial Management, and Strategic Planning, is a prerequisite. A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the EMVCO 3DS Payments field is necessary. A deep understanding of Software Engineering Concepts and Methodologies is critical. The ability to lead large, complex projects and collaborate effectively with Global Technology Operations, Corporate Groups, and external solution providers is paramount. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are mandatory, with a proven track record in creating requirements documents, design documents, and financial analyses.

Essential skills include the ability to attract and retain top talent, strong management capabilities for guiding direct and indirect staff, and the capacity to set strategic direction for complex projects. The role demands excellent communication skills for cross-organizational interactions with internal and external clients. You will lead teams in delivering high-quality, secure, and scalable software solutions aligned with technical specifications and budgets. This includes researching and evaluating technical alternatives, adhering to development and testing standards for compliance, and following MasterCard's Quality Assurance processes. Supporting the collection and reporting of project and software metrics, actively seeking opportunities for process improvement, and mentoring junior team members are also key responsibilities. A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent is required. Familiarity with Agile methodologies is mandatory; SAFE Agile experience is a plus. Fifteen or more years of experience in software engineering, including technical leadership, is essential. Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and web services is required, with Unix systems experience being beneficial. Knowledge of design patterns, SQL, PL SQL, and Oracle is preferred. Experience with REST services is also preferred. Working knowledge of cloud-based application development (e.g., PCF, Azure) and microservices development is required or preferred, respectively. Candidates must be high-energy, detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines. Strong communication, collaborative, and organizational skills, coupled with self-motivation, are vital for success in this matrix-based, geographically distributed team environment. A willingness to embrace new challenges and learn new technologies is expected. Preferred knowledge areas include the payment domain (especially card payments), application security, circuit breakers, REST API standards, encryption, SSL, mutual SSL, signing, reactive programming, blue-green deployment, resiliency, end-to-end tracing, wiremock, spring cache, open API specifications, crypto operations, load balancing, secret vaults, spring actuators, performance analysis, sonar code, and cloud technologies.
