Job description

GE HealthCare is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the design, development, validation, and ongoing enhancement of mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems. This role is crucial for both new product introduction and supporting our existing product lines.

By applying established engineering processes and design standards, you will collaborate with diverse, cross-functional teams to create innovative, reliable, and manufacturable solutions. Your contributions will ensure that we meet critical quality, regulatory, cost, and performance objectives throughout the product development lifecycle, guaranteeing the timely delivery of all assigned technical tasks.

Join GE HealthCare, a leader in medical technology and digital solutions, and help us create a world with limitless healthcare possibilities. We encourage you to unlock your ambition and transform groundbreaking ideas into world-changing realities within an organization that values every voice and contributes to a healthier global community.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing, developing, validating, and supporting mechanical components and assemblies for new products and ongoing engineering initiatives. You will leverage sound mechanical engineering principles, design standards, and best practices to deliver robust and compliant engineering solutions.

Collaboration is central to this role; you will work closely with Systems, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Service teams to forge effective technical solutions. Participation spans all product development phases, from concept and architecture through detailed design, prototyping, V&V, manufacturing transfer, and post-launch support.

Perform essential engineering analyses, calculations, and tolerance stack-ups to inform design decisions. Develop and review technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and BOMs, adhering to established engineering standards. Plan and execute Verification & Validation (V&V) activities to confirm product performance, reliability, and regulatory adherence.

Support supplier development, component qualification, manufacturing readiness, and engineering changes. Identify opportunities to enhance product quality, manufacturability, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and design standardization. Adhere to established engineering processes, quality systems, and documentation practices to meet deadlines.

Engage in technical reviews, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement efforts. Continuously enhance your technical expertise through mentorship, training, and collaboration with fellow engineers.

Qualifications

We require a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, coupled with a minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, product development, and New Product Introduction (NPI). A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or Tool Design is preferred.

Demonstrated experience in designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to production is essential. Hands-on experience with prototype development, testing, design verification, and design iteration is also crucial. You should have experience collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams to support component development, qualification, and manufacturing readiness.

Possess a strong foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, strength of materials, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering calculations. Proficiency in creating and reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation per engineering standards is expected, along with experience in planning and executing Verification & Validation (V&V) activities.

Familiarity with structured product development processes, engineering change management, design reviews, and root cause analysis is necessary. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are vital. The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment is a key requirement.
