Job description

Join GE HealthCare, a leader in medical technology and digital solutions, and contribute to a world where healthcare knows no bounds. This Mechanical Design Engineer role is integral to developing, validating, and enhancing mechanical components and subsystems for new and existing products. You will collaborate with diverse teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and manufacturable solutions that meet stringent quality, regulatory, cost, and performance targets, ensuring timely execution throughout the product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing, validating, and supporting mechanical components and assemblies for both new product introductions and sustaining engineering efforts. Applying core mechanical engineering principles and design standards will be crucial for creating robust and compliant solutions. You will actively engage with cross-functional teams, including Systems, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain, to devise effective technical strategies.

Participation spans the entire product development cycle, from concept and architecture through detailed design, prototyping, V&V, and post-launch support. This involves performing critical engineering analyses, tolerance stack-ups, and technical evaluations. You will also develop and review essential engineering documentation, drawings, specifications, and BOMs, ensuring adherence to established standards. Planning and executing Verification & Validation (V&V) activities is also a core part of the role, alongside supporting supplier development and manufacturing readiness.

Continuous improvement is a key focus, identifying opportunities to enhance product quality, manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. You will operate within established engineering processes and quality systems, delivering assigned tasks on schedule. Active participation in technical reviews, root cause analysis, and ongoing learning through collaboration and mentoring will be expected.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or Tool Design being a strong preference. A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in mechanical design, product development, and New Product Introduction (NPI) is essential.

Demonstrated experience in designing mechanical components and assemblies from concept to production, along with hands-on involvement in prototype development, testing, design verification, and iteration, is necessary. Proven experience collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams to facilitate component development and manufacturing readiness is also a requirement.

Essential technical skills include a solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, such as engineering mechanics, strength of materials, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering calculations. Proficiency in creating and reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation according to industry standards is expected. Experience in planning and executing Verification & Validation (V&V) activities, familiarity with product development processes, engineering change management, design reviews, and root cause analysis are also critical. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are vital for success in this multidisciplinary environment.
