Spearhead the design and evolution of systems that power the complete rental lifecycle, from reservations and pricing to fleet management and customer interactions. You'll operate within a complex, distributed environment supporting multi-brand, multi-country operations with intricate regulatory needs.

This role involves close collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to translate business requirements into scalable, resilient, and secure system designs. You will lead architectural discussions, conduct design and code reviews, and define API contracts, ensuring alignment across various engineering teams.

Your responsibilities will include modernizing legacy systems into cloud-native, microservices-based, and event-driven architectures. You'll focus on ensuring high availability, performance, and extensibility, while guiding teams in adopting best practices for observability, fault tolerance, and CI/CD pipelines.

A key aspect of this position is mentoring engineers, influencing technical direction, and maintaining architectural consistency. You will balance immediate delivery needs with long-term strategic goals, driving innovation and technical excellence.

Define and own the end-to-end architecture for Rental (RAC) and Digital platforms, encompassing backend services, APIs, and frontend integrations. Design and implement cloud-native architectures utilizing microservices, serverless patterns, and distributed systems. Establish and govern API-first design principles and integration patterns across systems (REST, GraphQL, event streaming). Drive the adoption of event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka) to create scalable, loosely coupled systems. Lead architectural efforts for critical platform capabilities, including reservations, pricing, fleet management, customer identity, and digital experiences. Ensure systems are built for high availability, scalability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization. Define standards for security, compliance, and data governance across all platforms. Collaborate with engineering teams through rigorous design and code reviews, providing hands-on technical guidance. Guide the adoption of DevOps practices, such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and observability tools. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and frameworks that align with the platform strategy. Partner with Enterprise Architecture to ensure alignment with broader technology strategies and shared services. Promote the use of AI-enabled development, automation, and intelligent system design.

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in software engineering and architecture is essential. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems is crucial.

Strong technical expertise is expected in: - Java, Spring Boot, and backend architectures - RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns - Microservices and event-driven systems

Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, with a preference for AWS, is necessary. Solid understanding of system design principles (scalability, consistency, resilience), data modeling, database technologies (SQL/NoSQL), and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ) is required. Familiarity with frontend and mobile integration patterns is beneficial. Knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes), is important.

Excellent problem-solving abilities and a capacity to evaluate technical trade-offs are key. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across teams and stakeholders are vital. Experience in Agile/Scrum environments with globally distributed teams is expected. Familiarity with security best practices (OAuth2, JWT, Zero Trust) is advantageous. Enthusiasm for applying AI in architecture, development, and platform modernization is highly valued.
