This role is a pivotal opportunity to shape the future of our rental platforms. You will be instrumental in designing and evolving sophisticated systems that manage the entire rental lifecycle, from reservations and dynamic pricing to fleet allocation and customer interactions. Operating within a complex, distributed environment, you'll address multi-brand, multi-country, and franchise operations with rigorous regulatory and operational demands.

Your daily activities will involve close collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams. You'll translate intricate business needs into scalable, resilient, and secure system designs. This includes leading crucial architecture discussions, meticulously reviewing designs and code, defining robust API contracts, and ensuring seamless alignment across diverse engineering teams. You will be a key driver in modernizing legacy systems, migrating them towards cloud-native, microservices-based, and event-driven architectures, all while upholding high standards for availability, performance, and extensibility. Furthermore, you'll provide expert guidance to teams on adopting best practices in observability, fault tolerance, and CI/CD pipelines.

A significant aspect of this position involves mentoring fellow engineers, influencing critical technical decisions, and maintaining architectural consistency across the platform. This requires a strategic balance between delivering immediate project needs and achieving long-term strategic objectives.

Define and own the end-to-end architecture for both Rental (RAC) and Digital platforms, encompassing backend services, APIs, and frontend integrations. Design and implement cutting-edge cloud-native architectures utilizing microservices, serverless patterns, and distributed systems. Establish and govern API-first design principles and integration patterns across all systems, leveraging REST, GraphQL, and event streaming. Champion the adoption of event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka) to build scalable and loosely coupled systems. Lead the architectural design for core platform capabilities, including reservations and booking orchestration, pricing and rules engines, fleet and availability systems, customer profiles and identity management, and mobile/web user experiences. Ensure all systems are meticulously designed for high availability, scalability, fault tolerance, and optimal performance. Define stringent standards for security, compliance, and data governance across all platforms. Actively collaborate with engineering teams through design reviews, code reviews, and providing hands-on technical guidance. Guide the adoption of comprehensive DevOps practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and robust observability tools. Evaluate and recommend innovative technologies, frameworks, and tools that align with the platform's strategic direction. Partner with Enterprise Architecture to ensure alignment with broader technology strategies and shared services. Leverage and promote AI-enabled development, automation, and intelligent system design practices to enhance platform capabilities.

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field is required. We are seeking candidates with 10–15+ years of extensive experience in software engineering and architecture. Demonstrated success in designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems is essential. Strong expertise is expected in Java, Spring Boot, and backend architectures. Proficiency with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and effective integration patterns is crucial. Hands-on experience with microservices and event-driven systems is a must. Direct experience with cloud platforms, with a preference for AWS, though Azure and GCP are acceptable. A deep understanding of system design principles, including scalability, consistency, and resilience. Solid knowledge of data modeling and various database technologies (SQL/NoSQL). Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ. Experience with frontend and mobile integration patterns, particularly React and React Native, is beneficial. Knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes). Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to expertly evaluate technical trade-offs. Outstanding communication skills with a proven ability to influence teams and stakeholders. Previous experience working within Agile/Scrum methodologies and with globally distributed teams. Familiarity with security best practices, including OAuth2, JWT, and Zero Trust concepts. A proactive approach to leveraging AI in architecture, development, and platform modernization.
