Job description

Join our Global Data Center Operations team as an IT Database Engineer. You will be responsible for designing, operating, and continuously optimizing enterprise-grade database platforms across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. This role ensures the performance, scalability, availability, and resilience of mission-critical workloads, while contributing to global standards, automation, and operational excellence. You'll support 24/7 operations in a globally distributed setting and serve as an escalation point for complex incidents.

This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in AWS Relational Database Service, with an overall experience range of 2-5 years. The role is based in our Chennai office and requires 15 years of full-time education.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and operate enterprise database platforms including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MS SQL across on-premises and cloud environments. Manage and optimize AWS RDS deployments, covering backup/restore, replication, monitoring, configuration, and performance tuning.

Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and resilience adhering to global architectural standards. Perform lifecycle management tasks such as patching, upgrades, performance tuning, security hardening, and capacity planning. Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) templates using tools like Terraform/CloudFormation for automated provisioning and configuration.

Utilize Ansible for configuration management, automated deployments, compliance enforcement, and repeatable operational workflows. Employ GitLab for CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated database deployment workflows. Script operational tooling and automation in Python. Support global initiatives including data center modernization, cloud migration, platform consolidation, and legacy decommissioning.

Act as an escalation point for complex database incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and drive long-term remediation. Collaborate with global network, storage, cloud, security, and application teams to deliver end-to-end infrastructure services. Maintain global documentation, operational standards, runbooks, and architecture references. Participate in on-call and shift-based rotations within a 24/7 follow-the-sun operations model.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with over 3 years of experience in enterprise database engineering or large-scale production operations. A strong command of Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MS SQL is essential, including expertise in performance tuning, replication, high availability, and troubleshooting.

Proven hands-on experience with AWS RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL/Oracle/SQL Server) is required, encompassing automation and monitoring. A solid understanding of high availability, failover, disaster recovery, and resilience design principles is crucial. Experience with IaC technologies like Terraform and CloudFormation, along with strong hands-on experience with Ansible for automated configuration management and deployment, is necessary.

Proficiency with GitLab, including CI/CD workflows for database automation, is expected. Strong scripting skills in Python for operational tooling, automation, and integration are important. Familiarity with security, compliance, encryption, and backup standards for enterprise database platforms is required. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration in globally distributed teams, with fluent English proficiency, are also a must.
