Job description

Advance global health optimization with Optum, a worldwide organization dedicated to improving lives through technology-driven care. Join a culture of inclusion and collaboration, offering comprehensive benefits and career growth opportunities. We are looking for a skilled Data Engineering Consultant to enhance our mission of caring, connecting, and growing together.

This role is crucial for maintaining and optimizing enterprise-scale SQL Server environments. You will be instrumental in supporting cloud migration and modernization efforts, ensuring the integrity and performance of critical database systems.

Responsibilities

As a Data Engineering Consultant, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of SQL Server environments, from installation and configuration to high availability and disaster recovery. Key duties include managing large-scale production databases, ensuring robust security, and performing proactive performance tuning. You will also design and implement backup and recovery strategies, including full, differential, and transaction log backups.

Your role extends to administering Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Storage. You will support database migrations to Azure, optimize performance, and manage costs within cloud environments. Developing and maintaining SSIS packages, troubleshooting ETL workflows, and designing Azure Data Factory pipelines for seamless data integration are core functions. Furthermore, you will implement automation for DBA tasks using PowerShell and T-SQL.

Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced professional with 7 to 10 years of hands-on experience in SQL Server administration. Essential technical skills include deep knowledge of T-SQL, performance tuning techniques (Query Store, Extended Events), database security, and high availability/disaster recovery solutions like Always On Availability Groups. Proficiency in Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Data Factory (ADF) is required.

Experience with SSIS for ETL processes and scripting with PowerShell is vital. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, along with relevant Microsoft Azure certifications. Exposure to AWS database services and cloud migration projects is highly advantageous. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills are key for success in this production support role.
