Join Google's Hardware Operations team and play a crucial role in maintaining the advanced physical infrastructure powering Google's search technology. As an Operations Technician, you'll be at the forefront of installing, configuring, testing, and troubleshooting state-of-the-art hardware, including servers and their components, alongside essential server software like Google's Linux cluster. Your responsibilities will extend to configuring complex networking equipment such as routers, hubs, bridges, and switches.
You'll also contribute to larger installation projects by participating in or leading small project teams and developing critical project contingency plans. This role involves hands-on work, including the manual movement and installation of racks. While physically demanding at times, you'll be excited to work with infrastructure at the cutting edge of computer technology. You will be responsible for deploying and operating new data center infrastructure across various projects and teams, including Machine Learning platforms and network architectures. A key part of your role will involve reporting issues and adhering to data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose moderately complex equipment or infrastructure problems, identifying the necessary resources for resolution.
Furthermore, you will independently diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, and infrastructure based on identified issues, utilizing multiple solutions. You will execute advanced operational procedures as part of your daily work activities, strictly following security policies and processes. Please note that working in shifts is a requirement to meet evolving business needs and operational schedules.
To be successful in this role, you should have experience with assembling mechanical or electrical systems, or performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment. A solid understanding of diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware, and server hardware is essential, along with experience with networking protocols.
You must possess the ability to lift/move up to 50lb (23kg) of equipment and demonstrate the physical capability to exert yourself over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting. The role also requires the flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules as needed.
