Join Google's Hardware Operations team, where you'll be instrumental in managing the cutting-edge physical infrastructure that powers Google's search technology. As a Hardware Operations Manager, you will lead a team of Data Center Technicians, ensuring the highest quality in server hardware and component installation, and expertly handling complex installations and troubleshooting.

Your team will be responsible for the comprehensive installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of both hardware (servers and their components) and server software, including Google's Linux cluster. They will also configure intricate components like networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. Project leadership for minor team efforts on larger installations and the development of project contingency plans will also be part of the scope.

This role offers the chance to lead a team of Data Center Technicians, fostering operational excellence throughout the entire lifecycle of server and network hardware. You will define clear team priorities and cultivate a high-performance culture through ongoing coaching and development. Oversight of facility activities will ensure that asset installation, configuration, and decommissioning align with long-term infrastructure objectives. You will also manage network deployments and craft contingency plans to mitigate potential risks.

Maintaining robust security and operational standards is key, leveraging data trends to pinpoint process enhancements and proactively guarantee maximum system uptime. Advocating for workplace safety by overseeing Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives and compliance programs is a crucial aspect. Your efforts will ensure the data center remains a secure, efficient, and highly reliable environment.

Lead and mentor a team, establishing and communicating team priorities that align with organizational objectives. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to discuss performance, provide development feedback, and offer coaching.

Collaborate to identify and resolve complex issues within our global computing and network architecture, developing effective solutions.

Partner with internal teams to achieve shared goals and engage with stakeholders to manage facility activities and execute both short-term and long-term strategic plans.

Uphold and execute security and operational procedures, meticulously tracking and analyzing trends to uncover improvement opportunities and ensure adherence to organizational policies.

Support the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and other compliance programs, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure thorough investigation, resolution, and reporting of safety incidents.

A Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience is required.

Possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in computing infrastructure, network architecture, operating systems (specifically Linux), or hardware.

Accumulate 10 years of experience leading technical teams responsible for the installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, or maintenance of server hardware and its components.

Demonstrate experience in site-level data center operational leadership, including building and managing leadership teams and developing managerial talent.

Be prepared to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and on shift-based schedules as necessitated by operational demands.
