Join us as a Custom Software Engineer focused on developing innovative, AI-native data products within the SAP BTP Datasphere ecosystem. This role emphasizes building intelligent data experiences, including data agents and conversational analytics, by leveraging strong enterprise data warehousing and semantic modeling expertise alongside agentic AI architectures. You will work with LLMs, tools, and retrieval mechanisms to create solutions that go beyond traditional dashboards, grounded in governed Datasphere models and integrated enterprise data sources.

SAP Datasphere serves as a powerful data warehousing solution with extensive integration capabilities, forming the foundation for our advanced data initiatives. We aim to transform how businesses interact with data, making it more accessible, intelligent, and actionable.

Design and implement governed data products within Datasphere, utilizing concepts like Spaces and shareable models to facilitate data exploration and sharing across teams. Build robust semantic models optimized for both analytics and AI consumption, ensuring clear entity definitions, measures, hierarchies, and lineage. Develop grounded AI experiences by connecting LLM applications to curated Datasphere models and enterprise data sources, ensuring AI outputs are traceable and compliant.

Engineer effective retrieval strategies that respect domain boundaries, data freshness, and access controls. Support hybrid modernization efforts by leveraging BW bridge patterns for a smooth transition from legacy warehouse investments. Implement lakehouse-style layering (Bronze/Silver/Gold) for efficient data landing, cleansing, and model publishing, embedding quality controls throughout the delivery lifecycle. Build data agents capable of planning, executing tools, retrieving context, and generating cited answers, incorporating deterministic checks and fallback behaviors.

Establish evaluation loops for conversational analytics and data agents, and add telemetry for AI interactions to enhance reliability and cost efficiency. Collaborate closely with business, data governance, and platform teams to align data products with operational workflows and drive reusable patterns for repeatable delivery.

A minimum of 3 years of experience in custom software engineering is required. A 15-year full-time education is a prerequisite for this role.

Must-have skills include proficiency in SAP BTP Datasphere for data modeling, spaces, sharing patterns, and enterprise semantic design. Strong data warehousing fundamentals are essential, along with the ability to translate business domains into governed analytical models. Practical experience building with LLMs and RAG (retrieval, grounding, prompt/tool design, evaluation) is crucial. Solid software engineering fundamentals, including testability, a CI/CD mindset, and reliable integrations, are expected.

Beneficial skills include migration/modernization experience using BW bridge style transition patterns, implementation of layered architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold), and familiarity with vector search/embedding pipelines. This role focuses on building agentic applications and governed retrieval on enterprise data, not on training foundation models from scratch.
