We are seeking a Custom Software Engineer to design, code, and enhance system components, delivering scalable and high-performing solutions tailored to specific business needs. This role involves leveraging modern frameworks and agile practices to build AI-native, HANA-optimized SAP applications and extensions.

You will combine deep ABAP on HANA engineering expertise with agentic AI patterns, focusing on production-grade solutions that utilize HANA pushdown principles and governed AI capabilities. The aim is to create systems that can reason, retrieve context, and assist within enterprise SAP workflows.

Key responsibilities include engineering high-performance ABAP on HANA solutions using pushdown principles, building efficient data models with CDS views, and implementing performance-critical logic with AMDP/SQLScript. You will develop modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code, build services and APIs using modern paradigms like OData, and apply secure coding standards.

Further duties involve modeling enterprise business entities with CDS semantics, designing reusable data artifacts, and building AI-enabled SAP experiences that integrate ABAP services with LLM capabilities. This includes implementing tool calling orchestration, retrieval-grounded outputs, and deterministic fallbacks. Quality engineering through automated testing and establishing evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors are also crucial.

Additionally, you will instrument services for observability, design robust error handling for enterprise flows, and support incident response. Integration with SAP and non-SAP ecosystems, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and prototyping rapidly to evolve systems into scalable production solutions are integral to this role.

A minimum of 3 years of experience is required, with a preference for candidates with 2-5 years of experience. Essential skills include strong hands-on expertise in SAP ABAP Development on HANA, focusing on performance tuning and pushdown techniques, alongside proficiency with CDS views and modern data modeling practices.

Experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios and a solid software engineering discipline encompassing clean design, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and production readiness are mandatory. The role also requires AI-native build capabilities, including LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and establishing safety boundaries.

Beneficial skills include OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, and contract-first development. Familiarity with integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes and enterprise integration platforms, as well as knowledge of SAP security and authorization requirements for sensitive enterprise data, would be advantageous. A full-time education of 15 years is a prerequisite for this position.
