Contribute to the development of custom software solutions, crafting and enhancing components across various systems and applications. The position requires a focused individual contributor skilled in delivering well-defined features and resolving defects within the VHAL and Car Framework, operating with minimal supervision. While contributing design input for assigned scope, the role also fosters growth towards independent component ownership.

Implement new vehicle properties based on agreed signal specifications, including property configuration, handler implementation, change-notification wiring, and error state management. Develop mappings between raw bus signals and Android property semantics, handling unit conversions, scaling, offsets, endianness, enumeration, validity flags, and timeout logic. Build and maintain Android services and app-facing components using Java/Kotlin, interacting with VHAL properties via CarPropertyManager and managing callback lifecycles. Extend VHAL and property-injection tooling to facilitate feature testing without target hardware. Create supporting tools such as property dump utilities, signal simulators, log parsers, and configuration generators. Debug issues across the stack using tools like logcat, dumpsys, adb shell commands, systrace/perfetto, and CAN/SOME/IP traces. Write unit tests (GTest, JUnit, Mockito) and contribute to VTS/instrumentation tests. Reproduce and fix assigned defects, providing clear root-cause analysis and documentation. Actively participate in design and code reviews, incorporating feedback to improve code quality. Manage SELinux policy changes for implemented features, with senior engineer oversight. Maintain up-to-date documentation, including property catalog entries, integration notes, and known limitations.

Possess 5+ years of overall experience, with at least 2 years in Android platform development, system applications, or embedded Android, or in automotive embedded C++. Demonstrate solid proficiency in Java and Kotlin, capable of writing clean, tested framework-level code. Exhibit working-to-proficient C++ (11/14/17) skills, including classes, STL containers, smart pointers, and basic concurrency, enabling safe extension of existing HAL codebases. Understand Android architecture, including activities/services, Binder/AIDL, system services versus apps, permissions, and the distinction between app-layer and platform-layer development. Have experience building and flashing an AOSP image end-to-end, with comfort using repo, Android.bp/Android.mk, lunch, make, adb, and fastboot. Possess a working understanding of HAL concepts, including HAL definition, AIDL/HIDL interface declaration and serving, and framework binding. Show awareness of SELinux, with the ability to read denial messages, understand .te syntax, and propose scoped rules for review. Have basic familiarity with vehicle networks, including CAN frames/signals, DBC file descriptions, and the use of SOME/IP. Additional beneficial experience includes prior exposure to CarPropertyManager, VehiclePropertyIds, or the AAOS emulator, scripting for tooling and CI (Python, Bash), and experience with Git-based code review workflows on large codebases (Gerrit). Minimum 3 years of specific experience in Automotive Digital Cockpit Solutions is required.
