This role focuses on developing innovative SAP applications and extensions, blending deep ABAP on HANA engineering with advanced AI patterns. The objective is to build high-performance, cloud-ready solutions using HANA pushdown principles and modern ABAP development. You will leverage governed AI capabilities for enterprise SAP workflows, enabling systems to reason, retrieve context, and assist within operational processes.

We are building AI-native, HANA-optimized SAP applications. This position is key to delivering production-grade solutions that are scalable and efficient. The work involves integrating agentic AI patterns like LLMs, tools, and retrieval mechanisms without the need for training foundational models from scratch.

- Design and develop ABAP solutions optimized for SAP HANA, focusing on pushdown principles to maximize in-database processing. - Build efficient data models and access patterns using CDS views, associations, annotations, and authorization concepts. - Implement performance-critical logic with AMDP/SQLScript, ensuring rigorous governance and testing. - Develop modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code following clean architecture practices. - Build services and APIs using modern paradigms like OData, ensuring stability and contract-first behavior. - Apply secure coding standards and consistent authorization checks across all layers. - Model enterprise business entities using CDS semantics for both transactional and analytical needs. - Design reusable data artifacts to support diverse downstream consumers. - Build AI-enabled SAP experiences integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities, including tool calling and retrieval-grounded outputs. - Implement prompts, tool schemas, and context strategies to reduce hallucinations and enforce enterprise safety boundaries. - Develop automated tests (unit, integration, contract) to ensure performance and correctness. - Establish evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors and introduce guardrails for AI outputs. - Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces for effective production support. - Design robust error handling mechanisms for enterprise flows. - Integrate ABAP on HANA services with SAP and non-SAP ecosystems using event-driven patterns and API gateways. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end solution correctness and performance. - Rapidly prototype, demonstrate solutions, and evolve them into scalable production systems.

Essential expertise includes strong hands-on experience in ABAP Development on HANA, with a focus on performance tuning, pushdown techniques, and efficient SQL access patterns. Proficiency with CDS views, modern data modeling practices (associations, annotations, authorization concepts), and experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios are crucial.

A solid software engineering discipline is required, encompassing clean design principles, a strong testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and a focus on production readiness. The role demands AI native build capabilities, including LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and establishing safety boundaries.

Beneficial skills include experience with OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, contract-first development, and integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes and enterprise integration platforms. Familiarity with performance benchmarking, load testing, query-plan driven tuning, and knowledge of SAP security/authorizations are also advantageous. This role specifically does not center on training or fine-tuning foundation models from scratch, but rather on building and owning AI behaviors as part of SAP solution delivery.
