This role focuses on building AI-native, cloud-ready SAP solutions using ABAP Cloud. You'll leverage deep ABAP and SAP platform expertise combined with agentic AI architectures and LLM tooling to create intelligent SAP applications. The position involves designing, implementing, and scaling these applications, integrating them with LLMs, retrieval pipelines, and enterprise systems to move beyond automation towards autonomy.

Design and construct ABAP Cloud applications that infuse LLM-driven intelligence into SAP business processes. Implement AI-enabled SAP extensions utilizing the RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP), event-driven patterns, and cloud-native architectures. Develop clean, testable ABAP code for seamless integration with AI services and enterprise APIs.

Incorporate agentic workflows, including tools, planners, memory, orchestration, and evaluation loops, within SAP processes. Integrate LLMs, embeddings, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines with ABAP Cloud services for contextually relevant and grounded responses. Craft prompt templates, grounding strategies, fallback logic, and safety boundaries suitable for enterprise SAP use cases.

Build and integrate retrieval pipelines using both SAP and non-SAP data sources, such as business objects, CDS views, documents, and events. Implement chunking, indexing, embeddings, and context assembly to support production-ready RAG scenarios. Ensure factuality, traceability, and explainability in AI-driven SAP workflows.

Implement evaluation frameworks, both offline and online, for AI behaviors within SAP processes. Design robust guardrails for authorization, data privacy, action boundaries, and error handling. Integrate observability into AI-enabled SAP applications, including telemetry, logging, and failure analysis.

Prototype rapidly, demo frequently, and iterate based on business feedback. Transition AI prototypes into enterprise-grade SAP production systems, prioritizing performance, security, and compliance. Continuously refine AI behavior, prompts, and orchestration strategies for optimal results.

A minimum of 2-5 years of experience is required for this Custom Software Engineer position. The core technical demands include strong proficiency in SAP ABAP Cloud, encompassing RAP, CDS, OData, and clean core principles. Hands-on experience integrating LLMs and AI services into applications is essential, alongside practical experience building RAG pipelines, embeddings, and contextual retrieval mechanisms.

Solid software engineering fundamentals, including design, testing, and CI/CD practices, are a must. The ability to translate complex business problems into effective AI-enabled SAP solutions is crucial. Secondary but strongly beneficial skills include experience with SAP BTP, eventing, APIs, and cloud services. Familiarity with agent frameworks or custom orchestration logic is advantageous, as is exposure to vector databases, search, or semantic indexing.
